Reaping souls of the dead and punching a clock might get monotonous but it's honest work for a Crow. The job gets lively when your assigned soul is stolen and you must track down a desperate thief to a realm untouched by death - where creatures grow far past their expiry and overflow with greed and power.

Talon Sharp Combat: Utilize melee weapons, arrows and magic to overcome a fantastic array of beasts and demigods. Mistakes are punished and victory is rewarded. Gain an edge by customizing your character stats and mastering the abilities and upgrades you obtain.

A Beautifully Bleak World: Venture beyond the Doors and explore a land full of twisted inhabitants and countless secrets, bringing hope to the weird and wonderful characters you’ll meet along the way.

A Dark Mystery to Unravel: Track down and defeat colossal tyrants with stories and motivations of their own. Experience a somber yet darkly comedic tale, uncovering the truths behind the flow of souls, the role of the Crows and the origin of the Doors.

Reviews

IGN - 9

Death’s Door is a must for those looking to scratch the itch of a classic Zelda dungeon-delving game, with the added bonus of impeccable combat against waves of foes in a creepy world. Secrets are plentiful enough to offset the low variety of rewards, and the cohesion of puzzle-solving and combat encounters worked terrifically to challenge me in all the right ways. While I wish the adventure didn’t end so soon, as a reaper of souls I should know: nothing lasts forever.

Gameinformer - 9

Death's Door marries fine-tuned hack n' slash action with a cool world ripe with secrets to unravel. The result is an entertaining, densely-packed trip to the other side.

Gamespot - 8

With an engaging world to explore and consistently satisfying combat to keep things entertaining, it's easy to fall in love with Death's Door. Its premise hooks you immediately, and it has the style and the substance to maintain the captivating allure of its opening. Perhaps most importantly, it's just consistently fun to play, with sharp enemy designs that keep you on your feet to challenging boss fights that test your skills in satisfying ways. There's a lot of death to deal and souls to reap, but Death's Door makes it a delight every step of the way.

Tech Raptor - 9.5

Acid Nerve has demonstrated an understanding of the Adventure RPG genre and has absolutely nailed its execution with Death's Door. Combat is fun and fast-paced, world exploration is rewarding, and the story while light-hearted hides some deeper meaning. Do yourself a favor and pick up Death's Door.

God is a Geek - 9

Death's Door is a beautiful game, both in the way it looks and the way it plays. Acid Nerve has hit the sweet spot when it comes to combat and exploration.

Windows Central - 4.5 out of 5

Death's Door is a near-flawless isometric action-adventure full of heart, humor, and honest-to-goodness combat excellence.

Press Start - 9

This quaint story about a workaday crow discovering that death is a force of nature that without discrimination takes all, both good and bad, winds up being far more memorable and touching than I could have ever expected. With a world and characters full of Miyazaki-proportional charm, and combat and puzzles that offer up a real test, Death's Door is a beautiful sophomore effort from Acid Nerve and is certainly something to crow about.

Excited for this but I’m holding off to see if it gets a Switch version. If not it will be one to get when I eventually get a Steam Deck, looks like great fun and glad it’s reviewing well.

I'm sure Xbox will only have console exclusivity for either six or twelve months. Looks like a must buy once I can get it on a system I own.

Zelda reference is an interesting one as I had not pegged this as being anything like a Zelda style experience. I will have to investigate further now!

Didn't Edge give VILLage a 6? Don't trust anything they say.

If Village is anything like VII then I'm on Edge's side in all honesty!

Put a few hours into it last night, loved it. It's currently 2021's highest rated game on Opencritic.

It’s sad to see how much support this is getting given how good it is supposed to be. I’m part of the problem though - buying games on Xbox just feels wrong to me when so much stuff is available for “free” through GamePass.

I must admit I kind of assumed this was a Game Pass game and was a bit disappointed when it wasn't, but at the same time I just have so much other stuff being thrown at me from the likes of GP that I simply can't see me taking a punt on games like this any more

So Ive had a Zelda-like itch for the longest time and based on the little Ive seen of this, it looks pretty fun. Hopefully it comes to other platforms soon.

Finished it with 98% complete. Loved it. Great length, gameplay & just the right level of difficulty for me. It's a 9 from me.

Got all the shiny things, weapons and the secret ending. Missed out 4 Crystal Shards which I may pick up later.

I didn't enjoy my first hour or so, it's good like and it probably gets better but it's just a time sink, I've requested a refund, if I can't get one it's ok as I will play it but not for a while.

Flight Sim and The Ascent.... it's behind those 2 among many others...

Looks really good, I do feel this is a game I’d enjoy more on the Switch rather than Series X though, much like Silksong, even if that hits GamePass at some point (like Hollow Knight has done) I’ll still be only playing it on my Switch, just feels the better platform for it in my opinion. Obviously if there’s now news of it being ported over (or the developers say it’s not happening) then I’ll buy it, till then I’ll wait a little longer.

I’m totally besotted with this game. The way the world all joins up, combined with the morose atmosphere, gives it a very Souls feel, but it’s far more forgiving. Definitely appealing to my exploring tendencies, and it hasn’t put a foot wrong so far. Lots of tantalising areas that I can’t reach yet, keeping me progressing to get more abilities.

My favourite moment so far (not really a spoiler):
