Have you ever seen any of Vermys travel videos? They're a great example of what you could do. They're interesting but yet he doesn't talk or show his face. You could do the same!

Edit: Vermy beat me to it

Yeah, see, in my case, i had a speech impediment as a child, and that really affected how i felt about the way i sounded (in addition to being physically attacked at primary school over it) which is why i prefer not to speak on camera.

Thanks everyone! I think video without commentary is the way to go. I don't mind (that's a lie, I do) being judged for my voice but the idea of watching myself back for editing is horrible. I just hate how I sound and the vocal tics I have that I'm not aware of when they happen so can't really stop them. I only ever watched my wedding video back once and got so fixated on how I sounded it tainted my memory of the day.

Please do not post this in the "No Context" thread

To be honest, as long as you still get to savour the experience of travelling (and don't just spend it staring into your phone camera) even if your Vlogs didn't take off on YouTube, you've still got a great video record of it all. It's probably something you'll look back on, get nostalgic about and maybe even want to pass on some day.

I'm definitely glad I took absolutely loads of photos while I was living abroad. A lot of them were naff, many were just of food, but it's nice to have that log. One day my memories and recall may not be quite so clear.

Considering everything that has been happening lately, i've purposely taken a step back from the endless news coverage and doomsday predictions (the latter being particularly prevelent online).

I've only just started getting back on track after my issues in January and it won't take much for my mental health to deteriorate again, so enough is enough, i'm now skipping the news almost entirely and for the time being, will metaphorically go down the Winchester, have a pint, and wait for it to all blow over.

I like the idea of your approach, Vermilion, as I tend to agree that looking at online news updates and peoples' views too frequently can cause a bit of unnecessary stress. I hope you're soon feeling a bit better, dude.

I'm in a really dark place at the moment. I feel very shut down and alone. Things have been a bit of a mental rollercoaster for a while now, and I just feel like I'm in a dive that I don't really know how to pull out of. This last week in particular has been awful.

Just can't seem to get my head above water.

Have you got people to talk to or do you feel that isn't an option?

I do, but they have like proper problems. They’re trying to schedule c-sections in hospitals that could be made into quarantine centres without notice or trying to transfer their jobs abroad and seeing if their wives will be legally recognised when they arrive so I feel like a bit of a dick being ‘yea but guys I feel really sad about not having the mental energy to arrange a haircut’.

Yeah, its not easy to try to explain your position to others. Councillors help if you can get hold of one. If it's a case of needing a listen post, drop me a PM. You may be surprised at the difference it makes.

So I just learned about the self actualisation pyramid in my counselling skills class and it puts so much into perspective, I thought anyone sufferit from mental health issues might find it useful

https://www.simplypsychology.org/maslow.html

In short: you can't be truly happy or improve as a person if your basic needs are not met. These stages quite often happen in a relatively linear order.

For example if you don't have emotional security (predictability/routine, a safe home etc) you can't build relationships and feel loved, if you can't build relationships and feel loved you will have low self esteem.

My lecturer said he's often haf to try and help his clients tackle their basic needs (sleep, food, personal security etc) before more complex needs because it's almost impossible for them to make progress otherwise.

On a more personal note, I've been writing in a journal when I feel my feelings get overwhelming and I can't express how much it helps. I'd recommend everyone do it.

It's mental health awareness month and Eurogamer has picked out some games that highlight various aspects of mental health.

Hopefully one or two of these games could help a few folk here; I played through Night in the Woods a few years back and found it to be super for exploring relationships between people.

That's a pretty great list. I'll be giving Gris a play.

Does anyone else suffer from panic attacks?

I started getting them recently and they're absolutely awful.

I had a big one the other day and I've never been so scared in my life. Felt like I was going to die.

I'm usually able to calm myself down with breathing etc but panic attacks just take over your body, feels like you have no control.

I can objectively think "I'm fine" but my body is like"strawberry float, EMERGENCY, YOU'RE GOING TO DIE, PANIC, ALL SYSTEMS 110% POWER"

Might look into that if they continue then. Thanks.

I'm hoping it's just an unfortunate mix of life events/coursework deadlines that's causing them.

Fingers crossed the symptoms start getting less severe.

After I had covid I suffered a lot with insomnia and fatigue, i was back and forth to the docs but it got to a point where it was more manageable.

Recently, this has started hitting me again but also my concentration is really bad, also have a lot going on personally that I keep thinking about but this is making me worrying about other things that might effect like work and relationships. Sometimes it also makes me feel physically sick.

Having a look online, I’m wondering if I’m having some form of anxiety? Does this sound like it could be that and of so, anyone have any advice on something I can try to help calm things down?
