2 months later and just had a second panic attack after managing to hold one back last night. Nowhere near as severe as the first one but still a horrible experience.

Left my car at work and had a work mate drive me home. Think I'm mostly over it now but going to take things easy this afternoon and go to the doctor tomorrow to see if anything can be done.

Just a bit worried in case he puts me on the sick as I don't want my work notice to start getting messy/awkward and become something I stress about explaining in interviews.

Health has to come first though.

Doctor's put me on a low dosage of anti depressants. I'm assuming it's not unusual to feel embarrassed about such a prescription?

Like you said in your post above, 'health has to come first'. Feeling embarrassed is a result of our culture's outdated attitude to mental health. Nothing to feel embarrassed about.

Huge numbers of people are taking or have taken anti-depressants, including many in this thread (and myself!). It's natural to feel a little embarrassed but it's important to know that there's nothing to actually be embarrassed of. You wouldn't be embarrassed about getting antibiotics and it's no different! :)

Different people deal with things in different ways. Personally I didn't want anyone to know about it and kept it secret from everyone except my immediate family. But I know someone who loved nothing more than taking pictures of his medication and posting them on Facebook.

Request: could this thread maybe be renamed to 'the mental health thread' or something similar? I assume the people who post here have numerous different conditions, and I think a name change would be more inclusive.

Anyway, I'm gonna post a link to another forum with a diary I was writing to help myself and others. I haven't added to it in a while, but many of the things I've written are still relevant. Also if anyone is interested there's a lot of info on my apparent condition.

Here's the link: http://www.dpselfhelp.com/forum/index.p ... ary/page-1

This is a good idea, done.

Very true. Depression and anxiety go hand in hand.

Yeah definitely try and get outside dude even if it's just around the block once a day. Staying inside for an entire weekend makes me anxious so 5 days can't be good.

Thanks, man. I was outside doing some gardening work for a few hours and I think it did me a lot of good.

Gardening work always does you good!

We should have a GRcade gardening topic! Er, maybe not....

Some people talk about gardening in the DIY topic btw. But yes it's very good if you can't face the street. I've ended up weeding for hours.

The current one doesn’t match some of the all-enveloping dark periods of the past but it is still having an impact. I have been avoiding social interaction and, well, doing almost anything, really. Outwardly, I’m still pretty positive but internally I’m just beating myself up for being useless.

I’ve not been outside in five days but I have gotta get out there now. Hopefully the fresh air will help and the change will give me a little boost as well. Small steps.

Do you work from home Jawa?

I’m out of work at the moment, Cora, and have been for a while now. It was great at first but I’ve sat around burning through money and now I’m panicking a little because I will need to be back in work pretty soon and yet I’m doing zero about it.

I gotta shake myself up and get going again.

Ah, apologies if that was a sore point. Perhaps it's worth pushing yourself even to apply for a job every week while you're going through this rough patch - it may help you get back into employment and will make you feel like you've achieved something for the time you've spent creating applications etc. What is your industry, if you don't mind me asking?

I've been trying really hard to get up at 7am and eat breakfast, managed to for 5 days straight but every other day I nap for a few hours on the sofa. Really need to listen to the idea of playing some games for even 3hrs to stay awake, surely that's the best thing ever? I can do that and work at 11am or whatever. At least until it gets easier.

For anyone that does work at home because of issues or circumstances or whatever I do recommend working somewhere public at least 1 day a week, I'm already putting it off each week though. Isolation and motivation is ridiculously hard when your body and mind just says, strawberry float it I want to be a cocoon for another few hours.

Ideally I would have a workshop/studio elsewhere but strawberry float me is it expensive. Gives me an incentive to grow though, not that I'm looking forward to the majority of my earnings going to a 2nd lease. At least I get the same tax relief.
