Scenario:

You're shipwrecked on a desert island alone. There is enough food etc to survive on and you have a solar generator to power a TV and a console of your choice or charge the batteries of a portable device. There is no internet signal.

3 games wash up on the beach inside waterproof packaging.

What console and what 3 games would you pick to stop yourself turning a basketball into your best friend?

Given the choice I'd grab a Gameboy Advance SP.

My 3 games would be:

Metal Gear Solid (GBC version)
Mario Kart: Super Circuit
Advance Wars

Thanks to the skirmish mode I could play Advance Wars forever TBH. That's a never-ending pile of battles to fight through.

It's tough to choose and the lack of internet capability impacts my thinking!

So...

My console is PS4 Pro and my three games are Mad Max, Fallout 4 and No Man's Sky. Each of them offer a big gameworld to explore and would bear repeated play... I'd be very happy with them :-).

If sanctioned I would bring my PC and the following as they are all brilliant and I could replay them forever without getting bored:

Doom
Deus Ex
Thief

Ideally I'd take a PC with Civilisation V (which has stolen weeks of my life at this point), Stardew Valley, and Rollercoaster Tycoon 2.

I like simulation / strategy / management style games, I guess. Just something about them sucks me in and I can't stop playing until it's far too late.

If it had to be a console instead, I'd take a Switch with Animal Crossing New Horizons, Skyrim, and Mario Kart 8, I guess. But I wouldn't be happy about it. :capnscotty:

Dreams makes the absolute most sense, despite not coming to mind sooner.

So yes, I'm going to have to say Dreams for this scenario as there'd be little else to focus the mind on than learning (and hopefully mastering) the comprehensive set of creation tools it offers.

Watch Dogs 2 - for the simple fact that it's San Francisco setting would be my ideal open-world hangout to escape into.

My third choice, for the sake of variety, would be a game which holds plenty of replay value. So on that note, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided seems the ideal choice on PS5. It's not as narratively strong as its predecessor, but within the scope of its world, densely packed environments and open-ended level design, the mileage this game offers (in a desert island scenario at least) is tough to beat.

So you wanna go to San Francisco eh, does this mean you'll be wearing flowers in your hair?

A switch with Skyrim, Disagea 5 and dragon quest builders 2

Or an xbox x series with Yakuza like a dragon, xcom enemy within and Skyrim.

You see I really want Yakuza like a dragon and dragon quest builders 2 but I can't do that on one machine without going PS4 and I'm not as comfy with PS4 controllers as xbox, if I had gone PS4 I'd have rounded it out with Disagea 5

A Game Boy with Tetris and Link's Awakening. I'll swap out my third game for a basketball so I have someone to talk to.

I was thinking I'd go with a Game Boy Color purely for the form factor but the original would be useful if I need to bludgeon a boar.

I’d want a Nintendo 3DS to wash up with these games,

The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D
Animal Crossing New Leaf
Pokémon Heart Gold

Reckon they’d keep me occupied till the next console washes up

I would go for PC as well (sorry).

Civ 5 for obvious reasons
Minecraft (with a few modpacks) as a huge time sink.
The last one is quite difficult, I could easily go for STALKER, or Euro truck simulator 2, but I settled on GTA5.
