Destiny 2: The Witch Queen out now

Oky doke well I have no idea where you're going with this so...

I'm already a bit bored of Override. It's too long and too samey. New Season armour remains amazing.

The more I read the more it looks like Bungie have indeed followed their "one good season -> one gooseberry fool season" rule.

The fact that the newest raid no longer gives a pinnacle award, but the 10 minute Exo Challenge activity does sure is some decision. And the challenges, aka the new seasonal progression system that really made seasons feel fresh? Completely nerfed, with each triumph's XP reduced by a whopping 30 000 points.

Also, someone worked out that the new transmog material is actually timegated, and that it will take 6 hours minimum of combat to earn 1 [one] transmog.

Why are they so bad at this?

I've said this before but I'm willing to give Bungie the benefit of the doubt and genuinely think so many of this game's annoying problems are down to the engine and old code that's just too much of a pain in the arse to fix quickly and efficiently compared to other priorities, rather than just silly decisions. So much of the game's systems have changed since launch.

Yeah, me too. Generally. But I think most of my problems this season aren't engine or mechanical stuff, it's decision based stuff. Like, there's no technical limitation that would lead to eververse shaders going from 40 to 300 bright dust, or the transmog system being timegated to an absurd degree.

I've got a theory that they've an A team and a B team working on seasons concurrently (much like they had with expansions back in the day) and the reason every step forward is followed by a step back is an A team season being followed by a B team one.

I was wrong this season is great.

I don't think I'm going to bother buying another season pass until cross play is in.

They seem to have settled on a format for the moment: new artifact to upgrade over the season (lure, hammer, glove etc), new activity (hunts, battlegrounds, override), new exotic mission (Harbinger, Presage, Expunge), lots of story doled out week to week, a bunch of new guns and armour.

Personally think they've nailed the season content formula now, but if it isn't hitting for you then yeah, I can't see them changing anything up too soon.

As a side note, as someone who was super excited for it, then massively disappointed when it was announced: the transmog system isn't that bad. It's slow, but it's also something that just ticks up as you play. I've already accrued two from just playing normally, on top of the 11 freebies.

I’m not a fan the last few seasons approaches

You don’t get anything from the new activity

You get mcguffins from doing regular activity, then you do the new activity to spend on mcguffins to get rewards at the end. (Eg gold for hammer charges)

The number of mcguffins you can hold and the number you can spend are capped comparatively low so you have to keep doing ‘the rotation’ between new/old content

I can understand the dislike of the approach this year of "Do three things in the repeated content for one run of the new thing" but I would argue that they've got better at the balance as the seasons have gone on. With Hunt it was a chore to go do three or four strikes/crucible games/gambit matches for the Hunt lure charge (or whatever it was) and it was a bit of a slog last season's albeit mitigated by the fact that the Battlegrounds were pretty hectic and mindless fun.

This season I think the grind for the new stuff has been a lot quicker - helped by the fact you get Either everywhere, there's no cap on the vex code keys and you can level up the gauntlet a lot quicker.

I would argue against there not being a reason to do the new stuff. The weapons added to the Battleground/Override the past two seasons have been really good. That's always been at the heart of Destiny, really, the grind for new weapons and then the grind to get the perfect roll. The armour has also looked quite appealing too at times (moreso with the ornaments).

The storytelling has come on leaps and bounds too.

Unfortunately I think they are somewhat limited in what they can actually do every 3 months or so (as I mentioned before) so I think this season and last have been a success. They've certainly kept me playing for 80% of a season, which I would argue means it has done its job. You're not going to get a House of Wolves/Warmind-style mini-expansion anymore, nor something like Opulence and the Menagerie.

I agree with Parksey's post, and yeah this isn't true. The new event gives new guns and armour, and by upgrading the glove the amount gained increases over the season. If that isn't enough then...I dunno. That's what a looter shooter is.

And for me, the excellent work they're doing with story more than equals "getting stuff" as a reason I continue to play.

How they were meant to be experienced.

(also a lot of story stuff happens through in-mission dialogue and through weapon/gear lore-tabs so you're missing half of it. There's a whole new zone in this season dedicated entirely to story told through items and inspectable objects)

You can inspect this mark and Eido, the Eliksni scribe who's one of this season's new characters, tells you how it's daubed everywhere so the adults can tell their children it wards off Guardians, so the kiddies will sleep. Then she goes on to say how terrifying we are: deathless, relentless killers who will never stop hunting the Fallen.

Even better: the mark is a crude drawing of Saint 14's helm

Genuine shivers when I realised that, and top-tier storytelling.
