I'm enjoying PVP this season, so I'm going to solo queue for Fabled to get the Recluse. Almost there now, having not played that many games. I'm also juggling between tryibg to get the kills for Luna's, the kills for Thorn and the scout rifle kills for Randy's Throwing Knife. I didn't play much over the Season of the Drifter and for 2/3s of Opulence so I've got a backlog on the pinnacle weapons.

The Mountaintop's requirements just seem like a massive grind. You did it all in the past week or so? My main problem is I am gooseberry fool at aiming the Fighting Lion in PVE, so cant see myself being effectively in Crucible. It just seems to bounce right past it.

How did you manage the double kills too? I feel like it would take me the entire season and focusing entirely on that. I doubt I'd win many Crucible games while I focused on grenade launchers too, as I tend to use Hammerhead as my heavy in Comp.

Started on Friday  I put a lot of time in the past few days.

So with Fighting Lion, you've got the trigger-explode ability (hold the trigger when you fire, release to detonate the grenade sorry if you knew this already!) which makes kills much easier. It takes a while to master but once I'd gotten used to it I was getting kills from across the map fairly consistently. It's not a close range gun though, so you always need to be behind someone, and it takes 2-4 AoE hits to get a kill so you'd better be around cover. Best maps are the Io and Nessus ones I found.

Double Kills was the strawberry floater. All the advice online seems to say stick to normal Crucible or Iron Banner as more people = more chances to get groups but I found Competitive was much easier as there were fewer people going for the Heavy ammo (which you need: getting double kills with the light launchers is impossible outside of luck). So basically, equip the largest blast radius Heavy launcher you have, camp the ammo and cross your fingers.

I still think Thorn was the most frustrated I've gotten with a quest though. That headshots stage was real bastard.

I remember doing the mountaintop in Destiny 1 for the moments of triumph and it was horrible.

For me The Black Spindle mission was the pinnacle of frustration.
3 times I managed to get to the last room with a group and fail simply due to the enemies being colossal bullet sponges and being able to completely destroy you as soon as you popped out from the safe starting corridor.
It's a close second to not getting a Gjallarhorn to drop until about a week before it was nerfed into the ground and made pointless  .

I'm sure I remember me, Dinoric and pattybean doing that Spindle mission first time somehow.

I didn't get Gjallarhorn until the second time Xur sold it. iirc he sold it a week or two after the game came out then never again until around a year later not long after Bungie announced they were nerfing it which was convenient. :simper: I remember them claiming Xur's inventory was automated even though it blatantly wasn't.

Some people didn't find it hard but I think I struggled as I tend to play as a support player and that last room was just all about pure DPS and my character just could never do enough damage to destroy the shields of the guys inside and my shields were getting instantly shredded. It was a case of running in and just monstering the room and I'm just not good at that play style.

Oh well.

The problem is the Horn was such an iconic weapon that everyone wanted and I can see why they kept if out of the hands of Xur as it almost certainly gave people something to strive for to get it to drop. We had people queuing at loot caves (mostly pretty politely as well) so they must have got something right.

Taf, how did you get the Calculated Trajectory medals? Think that's three grenade kills in one life, right? I'm guessing that was a combination of Fightion Lion energy kills and then maybe grabbing the heavy to get another one. I find I'm really crap with grenade launchers though. I tend to not be the most accurate and miss, with them not having the blast radius of a rocket launcher to be forgiving with such crap aim.

Yeah I knew about FL's remote detonation, but having used it recently in Strikes as I chase the Wendingo bounty, I am not great with the remote detonation. Probably just need more practice.

I've seen a few people using the Colony in Comp, so not sure how effective that is. Think I had the catalyst drop the other day too.

Calculated Kills (three grenade launcher kills in one life yeah) was the one I was most worried about but ended up being the first of the three I got. The answer really is (if you'll forgive me) git gud. Learning to use the Lion properly takes time but now that I have I'm using it as my primary pvp weapon even after the pursuit is done. It's just so darn satisfying to see an opposing player duck behind cover (or even better, a Titan shield) thinking them self safe and bouncing a grenade off an adjacent wall onto their head.

It's all about learning a new role: with the Lion you're support not frontline. You're the artillery. Stay behind another player and work together with them to finish off enemies. If you can get a grenade to explode reasonable close to someone it'll halve their shields or health, so I often found myself waiting until an enemy had taken a few hits and retreated before popping a grenade right by them to finish them off. If you're at the back you're also less likely to be a target, meaning you can retreat and heal if you do take a few hits (learning to do this actually took the longest time as my impulse was always to charge straight in no matter what). If you're by yourself, hang back and wait for support as it'll take a while before you can go one on one with a Guardian using a traditional shooter (being able to do this regularly now has possibly given me more satisfaction than earning the damn reward).

Or, you could just wait for Mayhem to re-enter the playlist!

As for the Heavy, I used a high blast-radius Edge Transit. People recommended Play of the Game with proximity charges but I don't have one unfortunately. I've also seen the Colony quoted but I don't think I've ever used it and I'm pretty sure it's a whole different ball park. Using the Lion should improve your Heavy GL aim as well so I stuck with what I knew.

As I say I did the vast majority of the pursuit in Comp. Normal crucible or Iron Banner is just so chaotic solo you rarely have the opportunity to position yourself as everyone is just rushing towards the other team and getting as many kills as they can before dying.
As for the Mountaintop itself, it's pretty fun. It taking secondary ammo means it's not especially useful for pvp but it's hella fun in pve.

How many rounds do you get with the FL in Comp though? As with Jotunn I only get 2 shots, which obviously doesn't leave much margin for error.

i feel like if I get plenty of ammo, I can probably get a double kill *fairly* frequently. Comp makes it less likely you'll get swamped unlike the sheer confusion of 6v6. I can always go in to QuickPlay to top the kills up of I still need them (think it's 750 kills).

I dread to think how the quest was before it got changed. Think it's 1/3 of what it currently was.

By the way, can I have your PC Destiny ID thingmy thing? I'm not on PC myself but I'd take a look at your stats, results in games, accuracy etc. to sort of see roughly what ballpark I need to aim for. I'm decent at Destiny (as the game is weird and anything over 1.0 KD seems to be above average) so I can compare mine to yours. If you don't want to share that info, it's fine of course.

Oh, one more thing, did you have the FL catalyst fully upgraded before using it? I have it but not finished yet, so might go and do that in the Strikes to get Wendingo first.

I should hopefully get Fabled tomorrow so I have a few things I'm looking at grinding - Luna's, Revoker and Mountaintop all need quite a lot of time dedicated to grinding kills.

Aha! This is why the Lion is exotic.

It uses primary ammo.

You start with one in the chamber and 8 reserve (I think, could be 6). One primary pickup adds 10 rounds. I only ran out a handful of times over the entire pursuit.

And yeah, this is the problem with double kills. Like I say, getting them with Lion is almost impossible so you're reliant on Heavy, where one pickup gets you 4 shots.

I dread to think how the quest was before it got changed. Think it's 1/3 of what it currently was.

There is no way I'd have attempted the previous quest. It was strawberry floating ridiculous (200 double kills rather than the 75 now)

Sure, it's just Tafdolphin. Game history is here: https://www.bungie.net/en/Profile/GameH ... Tafdolphin

EDIT: Oh man forgot how good the music can be in this game:

a far better theme than Cayde deserved. Urgh, that character.

Hadn’t realised they’d changed Mountain Top but still not sure I could ever be bothered to push it

I’m rather enjoying sniping in Crucible for the ritual though

The majority of that thread is full of Destiny no-lifers.

These bots are getting worse!

btw lol @ Bungie for adding direct access to Eververse from the director screen so you can buy stuff from it no matter where you are, but still making you visit venders directly to get bounties.

I imagine it's because having the bounties in the director will make it even slower to load up. The store is just a static object whereas the bounties would be constantly updating and tracking progress across maybe 50 or more timed "events".

But yeah, apparently Eververse pays for stuff like the Zero Hour and Whisper missions. Not sure if I would accept that trade off, or if I'd rather every piece of loot was obtainable in-game. I'm not that bothered about every piece of armour, ornament, sparrow and ghost, and I'm definitely not bothered about emotes and finishers, but I'd rather they were all available through playing the game. Even if people without silver had to rely on ridiculous RNG but silver users could buy them, it'd be better than just having them behind a paywall.

I don't know if it's just me but I'm getting near constant weasel errors ever since the switch to Steam. It's gotten to the point where I can barely complete an activity before being booted to the main menu.

Finished the Shadowkeep campaign. All in all, it's good. Not as long or involved as Forsaken, but I liked what they were going for. It does end very abruptly, but I expected that beforehand and it goes further towards explaining what the Darkness actually is than ever before, which is interesting. There's no answers here though.

Have they ever hinted at leaving the solar system?
I thought the idea was we're pushing the enemies back and reclaiming territory and planets and would eventually strike enemy systems?
Maybe for Destiny 3?

Lore wise there's been a lot about expanding through different dimensions and planes rather than physical space in our universe. The reins have really come off with regards to setting now: it really is D&D in space. With guns. Which is awesome.

Also, I doubt we'll ever see a separate Destiny 3 at this point (if you don't count Forsaken as Destiny 3, which it basically was). It's a fully fledged MMO now, so I imagine it'll continue down the line of seasonal stuff (priced around £10 for 3 months of content) followed by larger £30 expansions.
