Cleared Vault of Glass. Not my favourite raid: requires lots of pinpoint accurate communication which, with an LFG group is pretty hit or miss. Did half with one group, half with another.

It's fine overall. It lacks the visual flair of Last Wish and Garden of Salvation and everything is a little too fiddly to be fun. I'm sure I'll like it better on subsequent runs (gotta get that shader, closest to Blessings of the Nine I've seen since).

But...I did it!

Was this your first time doing it? You didn't do it back on D1?

I haven't attempted it yet, as a few of my raid team were away last weekend. Haven't really looked into what they changed either.

Though I only really ran VOG (and Crota's End) either just before or just after The Taken King, and it was with friends that had done it literally hundreds of times before. They even had the Flawless raider trophy - for getting the team through the entire raid without dying. We were also comfortably over the light level by that point, so it felt a little bit like being taken round an automated fairground ride, stopping to see each little bit before quickly moving on. I can't say I have particularly strong memories of it. Not good, not bad, just sort of... there.

I can see why, in autumn 2014, when it launched a few weeks after the base game got a muted response, it was such an amazing, fresh experience though.

Yeah, first time. I was living in Australia when it dropped originally and I remember arranging a try with GRCade peeps, logging on and discovering I'd passed my data limit for the month and couldn't play!

I've fond memories of the entrance way as I attempted to reconnect over, and over though.

They've changed it up quite a bit apparently, with the oracle mechanic especially being much more reliant on communication (you'll see) though, weirdly enough, the final boss is probably one the easiest encounters.

EDIT: There's actually some pretty serious glitches right now. The invulnerable minotaurs in the Gatekeeper encounter can be killed with The Colony for some reason, and through some weird respawning tricks you actually kill the boss before his encounter begins!

gfdi they nerfed the new Warlock boots. The first time I genuinely felt like I could act as a proper support class, and they patched it out within a week.

They are so, so bad at some of this gooseberry fool.

That would have really sent me over the edge.
I really wanted to be a support player but never felt the support abilities were even half as powerful as any other option.
Even the simple super that gave everyone in a radius extra grenades was utter pants and people didn't realise it was active unless I shouted that I'd activated it.

The new boots meant any rifts you stood in generated orbs that would fly about the place healing/strengthening your teammates depending on the type of rift. Every time an orb found a teammate, your rift was extended (while the ability was also recharging in the background). Essentially this meant you could become a proper healer. They've now made it so that your rifts don't regen while you're standing in them, thus halving the usefulness.

They're still the best option for support, but far less so.

This week's plot is one of the strongest story points they've done in years.

Amazing stuff.

The Eliksni encampment is attacked and partially destroyed by city residents. Mithrax, Lakshmi and Saint have a very effective convo (Mithrax tries to get Lakshmi to stop hatemongering against his House, she calls all Eliksni as bad as each other and leaves: she is now literally a space-Republican). Then Saint tells Mithrax that people cannot be forced to live with their monsters. Then this plays:

EDIT: Also, and I didn't realise this at the time, in the convo you have with Lakshmi afterwards she references a protest song people of the city have been singing...it's set to the tune of Savathun's Song

That Expunge can get in the bin. The worst Destiny content I’ve ever played, bar none. What a mess.

What? Why? I really like it: it's a constantly evolving story mission that, in its two iterations so far, has found ways to be interesting and expands the gameplay beyond just shooting things, similar to the Whisper of the Worm mission back in the day.

I don't get what's not to like, let alone hate. It's no Presage, but it's still fun.

It just wasn’t any remote fun to play. Getting lost, the horrendous platforming, annoying enemy placement…not for me.
I am digging the whole Tron thing they’ve got going this season, soundtrack included.

Fair enough. I enjoy the platforming for the most part, and I think Expunge's differing goals week to week are helping keep it from becoming stale. BUT if you're not a platforming person then yeah. That's what it is.

On that subject, I'm trying to think what I'd view as the worst content they've ever done. I think it'd be hard to top the banality that was the Curse of Osiris campaign, and the Infinite Forest in general. Taking the concept of an infinite reality machine and turning it into the most boring, blandest tileset in the game would be...a challenge. But they managed it

Also, Trials. Obviously.

The new type of public event they were hyping up for Curse of Osiris that just ended up being a wet fart. They were doing a live stream demonstrating it, going on about how it was the most rewarding public event ever and all they got at the end was two tokens and a blue weapon from the chest.

All I remember about that public event was it being way, way too long and fiddly and it when a certain amount of completions were required for a quest it was by far the worst part.

That whole period was a wet fart with the lies about XP throttling and lots and lots of profit gauging (not that that's completely gone even now).

What did y’all think about the one after that, Escalation Protocol?

I can’t do this 2nd expunge mission, even with a video guide. The platforming bollocks Bungie just love to put in the game, I hate it. Just…hate it.

Escalation Protocol was cool as it was actually fun to do and had decent rewards: I remember when the IKELOS shotgun was one of the Must Have weapons in the game and it dropped only from EP and even then only once every 3 weeks.

And I don't, really don't, want to be the git gud guy but what is it you're finding difficult about Expunge Styx? Perhaps you're underleveled a bit? I managed to do it first time with the In-Under-10-Minutes triumph. I thought it was much easier than the Labyrinth.

It’s the platforming, nothing more. So yeah, I probably do need to git gud, or raise my mobility stat.

What class are you playing as?

Also if you find it too hard in first person, you can always switch to a sword and attempt it in third person? I know some people find it easier that way.
