strawberry float Destiny 3. I think the franchise is too badly soiled. Bungie should drop it and come up with something less generic.

I massively disagreed with that. It's not a soiled franchise, despite Bungie messing up.more than a few times along the way.

Forsaken was the best Destiny has ever been and massively enthused the fanbase again. And the original Destiny had the same peaks and troughs. These games are always being added to and changed, so like any MMO, there are always high points and low points. What Bungie need to do is not start from a low point again with D3, and build on what has worked with the other two games rather than make big changes to things that don't need it.

I disagree with it being generic too. Have you actually played it or do you just see it as another space shooter? As it has quite a bit of world-wide get and lore behind it (if you like that sort of thing)and if you don't, gameplay is still top class and it's fun when you feel like a souped up space ninja. It's structure is also fairly unique for a FPS on consoles, only really similar to Warframe and the upcoming Anthem.

If you've ever done a Raid with a team of friends, then you wouldn't say they were generic.

No reason to not believe that when he's been bang on about every single Destiny rumour.

It was Luke Smith's decision yes, but no choices are made in a vacuum. We don't know what metrics he was attempting to hit while making such decisions, nor what the terms were of the agreement with Activision. It's naive to see Bungie as nothing but a plucky underdog making games purely for fun, but I think everyone can agree that Activision are the worst of the two when it comes to shady money making.

If Schreier himself is excited, I think fans of the game ought to be also.

And yeah, this is absolute nonsense. I had no loyalty or history with the series until a few months back and went in during the base-game giveaway expecting to play the campaign and leave. I've since played almost 200 hours based off nothing but how enjoyable it is in its current state. Yes Bungie strawberry floated up the launch, yes the first two expansions were disappointments, but Forsaken essentially WAS Destiny 3 and became one of my favourite games of the past few years.

Also, please redefine your definition of 'generic.'

There's nothing generic about a Destiny raid - they are basically out there on their own in terms of mechanics and cooperation in a FPS game.

Even the game structure hasn't really been implemented yet in other FPS games.

Many things could be levelled at Destiny, and there have been many flaws across its five-year life span but being generic isn't one of them.

And as previously said, the franchise isn't soiled either. Destiny 2 has has real low points, but Forsaken arguably left it at an all-time high. They need to capitalise on that, not throw the entire franchise out.

I mean, EA have staked a large part of their financial security on a game that is, by and large, a copy of Destiny's structure.

But yeah. Generic.

I went back to this since I saw they added bounties to get you up to 650 by giving you two pieces of gear at that level., then I remembered about all the dumb infusion costs and it would take me about a week at least to get enough enhancement cores to infuse up the gear I want. Nah.

Nice to see they finally made Xur sell Forsaken exotics since I've never had a single one of those drop, It was just all year one duplicates previously.

I'm really struggling with the infusion materials too. They're needlessly rare.

Have you tried Gambit Prime? Or the Reckoning? I've put a few hours into each but honestly it all feels a bit wet fartish. Black Armoury ended up being really fun after everything was unlocked but with Drifter there's so far been nothing of any real interest to me. Even the new armour looks like some shite TRON ripoff.

What's really telling though is that my clan has gone from super active during Forsaken and BA to almost completely inactive since Drifter. No-one really likes Gambit Prime and The Reckoning is a worse version of the Blind Well. It's all a bit disappointing.

How so?

(Context: genuine question not sarcy arseholery)

To me it's pretty much exactly the same but without the zone mechanics that made BW interesting, or the shield enemies Vs shield breaker orbs that, well, also made it interesting. It's just a big arena full of dudes. Even the betting isn't interesting as if you lose you get back the mote you wagered!

It's also worse than the Forges which had the charging mechanic that... Well. You get the idea.

A) Matchmade from the Director
B) Easy to re-queue
C) More interesting location (didn't like the perma damage mist - made entire encounter look dull)
D) Not fussed about Plague Servants/Harmony - but if you liked that ok
E) There's more to it than just an area...have you tried Tier 2? (Not much more, don't get too excited) And I assume Tier 3 will have yet another step
F) Raid banners!
G) Challenging. Even at launch blind well you had enough to blast through or you never did it it. There's not skin of your teeth thing - it comes from there being 1 to 9 people. By knowing there's 4 people max they can balanced much better (we'll outlevel eventually obviously but for now it's much more interesting gameplay that at similar point in content's lifecycle)
H) Modifiers. Bit different each time - not fundamentally different, but interesting (and will matter more at higher tiers). Except Glass. strawberry float Glass,

Fair enough! I didn't find that any of those added anything to the experience of BW or The Forges but I can see how maybe they would. Except the matchmaking actually, but that's in the forges too.

I haven't tried Tier 2 yet admittedly, although I found the 'challenge' in tier 1 to mean dying regularly and spending 20 seconds waiting to res as playing with randos=no res for you.

Nah I went on to buy two exotics from Xur then turned it off after looking at the power up bounties and seeing how much enhancement cores I'd need to be able to stay at 650 without being forced into using gear I didn't want.

So I've been playing through the short story questline included in the new season and if this is where Bungie is headed post Activision...I'm excited.

Important caveat, all of this was no doubt created before the split and maybe with the help of some Acti-subsiduaries...

So the choice the Drifter gives you is actually quite a big one (potentially): turn your back on the Vanguard (and the newly forefronted Order of Praxis) and side with him or sack him off. The big worded WARNING statement claims this will have ongoing effects for the rest of the season, perhaps the rest of the game.

I like this. After chosing the Drifter I actually started to think of my Guardian as...a character? for the first time. By giving players a choice it allows us an expression which isn't simply which thing to shoot next and this in turn provides a modicum of personality to my avatar. He's a rogue now, rather than a space solider. And I like that.

The quest itself is fine. There's a revoiced Heroic mission, a few Crucible and Gambit kill and collect-a-thons and I'm currently on what I suspect will be the last stage, a "secret stashes of Cayde-6" esque audio-log hunt. Which I'm actually excited for. Unlike Cayde, the Drifter is a good character full of mystery and contradiction. I'm actually looking forward to the story content this last stage will provide.

I also got spoiled on the identity of The Nine who have been around since D1 (which I imagine is the big reveal at the end of this quest) and...I really liked where they went with it. You might have thought that after 5 years of building these mysterious powerbrokers up the reveal would be a disappointment but the fact they're conscious representations of the 9 planets of the solar system was suitably batshit interesting.

I'm still disappointed with the gameplay content in Joker's Wild, but the changes they're making to the narrative are genuinely exciting.

Zavala? I'm Praxic baby

I haven't done all of it

It sounds pretty similar.
Drifter calls you a dirty snitch and threaten you.
You go do some busy body stuff around the tower, send messages, bug drifter's room etc
You go to Spider - and bribe him to tell you about Drifter
You do a mission on Titan (same mission I believe) - but the Emissary voices over a fair bit, and then Drifter takes over slagging you off and basically threatening you
Then you do some Gambit (with some extra voice lines from Drifter - "Welcome to Gambit Snitch" and "Hope your fireteam watches your back, cus I won't" kind of things...no idea if it's forever or just this quest step

And there's where I'm up to

So the lore, as far I remember...

He left earth after/during the dark age
Hooked up with the Shadows of Yor (cult worshipping Dredgen Yor, Destiny's expy of the Christian figure of Kane)
Found a planet covered in Darkness type energy
His crew largely ended up killing each other.
Appears in the Terra system after the Red War in a bodged together ship hauling... Something.
Starts Gambit using Taken he's somehow managed to harvest. The Motes you as a player harvest are heavily implied to be motes of Darkness rather than light
Turns out he has an agreement with both The Nine (who gave him The Haul from which he created Gambit) and The Man With the Golden Gun (legendary Hunter who hunts Shadows of Yor I still can't believe that's the guys nickname. Unoriginal much?)

As far as I know it's not been revealed what his plan is, or why he's harvesting Motes.

I just like his ambiguity. Also, the lore has repeatedly hinted that a new type of Guardian is coming, one with both the power of the Light and the Dark. No doubt it'll be a new class for Destiny 3, but it'll be interesting to see how the Drifter is involved.

Yeah, apparently Shaxx was supposed to change tone during the Crucible challenge if you side with Drifter but I got the same dialogue as always.

You can buy enhancement cores from spider for legendary shards. They double in price for each one you buy, but reset each day (10, 20, 40 etc).

You get them from scrapper bounties now too.

An easy way to tell if you'll get them from dismantling legendary gear is if the MW level is over 5 you'll get 1/2 as well.
