Beyond Light was supposed to come out yesterday, so instead Bungo released a new trailer
Every look we get at Europa makes me more excited. Variks is back, the Deep Stone Crypt is finally here, the Stranger, the Darkness...I'm jazzed.
They also released the map for the new Europe patrolzone and it looks massive:

There's an awful lot of stuff underground too so this is looking like a pretty special addition.

Yep, I've got it pre-ordered on PC.
Apart from that though, it looks like the game is pretty much dead until Festival of the Lost. There's literally nothing going on week to week these days (apart from the very nice and quite touching memorial quest this week)

Most probably. BUT...surely they must have had something in mind when Beyond Light was set for a September release: Mercury would have been gone by then.
But this is Bungie. They'd probably just have had Osiris turn up at the Tower with a new entrance to the Forest.

After playing original Destiny 2 on PS4 I might restart on Xbox since I think the game and all expansions are on there now aren't they?

To be fair, if they have two extra months until BL now (it was supposed to be launching today
), I'd much rather than spent any available time working on that, instead of inserting new things into this extended season. FOTL will come along, which was planned anyway, but I bet it was just the Haunted forest again, regardless of Mercury's status. It's an opportunity to complete your "To Do" list before the wipe, or even just take a breather and avoid burn out.
For anyone getting the old expansions with Gamepass, Forsaken is some of the best stuff Bungie has ever done. Might be a case of being on after the event (furore around Last Wish and any secrets is long gone) but it's still worth experiencing the end game content.

Just installed again as free on game pass. No doubt will get completely drawn in again then quit two months later wondering what on earth I did with all that time.

100% with you. I'm quite happy to take a break for a few months, hopefully it'll mean coming back will feel all the better!
Also, for those who don't know, if you log in this week you'll get a prompt to start a quest on Mars. This is a short memorial to a member of the Vicarious Visions team who died recently, and is very touching.
From a purely mercantile POV, it takes about 5 minutes with a guide and gifts you a unique item that can be swapped for a previous seasonal exotic at the cryptarch (I grabbed Devil's Ruin as I already had the others). Well worth getting.

This is the worst part of the whole thing. The 3 planets? Fine...apart from Mars they're all pretty irrelevant anyway. But the raids were genuinely still excellent, and Crown of Sorrow has barely been out a year.
Rumours are that everything that's being taken offline will actually be returning sooner than we think however:
tl:Dw - Last year Bungie invited a bunch of top D2 players to HQ to talk about the future of the game. They asked them whether they wanted a Destiny 3 and if so what this D3 could do that D2 couldn't. The idea of the content vault was then discussed, 6 months before it was revealed to the public, with Bungo saying they'd be vaulting stuff for the express reason of re-coding/reprogramming them to be more efficient and take up less space, insinuating all removals would be short term.
Who the strawberry float knows though.

Played a few hours today, love it. I haven’t a clue what’s going on story wise but I’m enjoying quests and community events. It’s gorgeous in 4K

What sort of stuff have you been doing? The myriad of systems, upgrades and currencies they have added over the years is a bit confusing, especially to new players. And New Light is apparently not great at introducing this to FTP players.
If you need advice it's best to ask here or look online. Some weapons are definitely worth chasing, but for now just go through all the campaign's in the order of release.
When I get my Xbox, I'll be able to play with you if you need help (I presume most people here have been playing on PC or PS4). It's better with a group or a clan, so you should try and seek one of them out.
And yeah, my big draw for next gen is the free Destiny upgrade. The load times are horrendous on the PS4, and even opening the menu takes an age. 60fps will help a lot too, though the visuals and performance elsewhere is okay. It's a really beautiful game in terms of art direction.

I'm just opening the Director and picking a planet then doing the little quests you find like kill so many enemies or destroy something. If a Community event starts I head over to it, it seems VERY populated on Xbox now (the free GP and DLC must help) so loads of us end up at these events and it's exhilarating tbh. Took me an age to work out that I didn't have my speeder thing (can't remember name)
I'm a warlock but can select 3 'energy types'? Fire, some blue thing and some dark navy emblem stuff (on top left of equipment/inventory screen)
The Finishing moves are ace (forgive my awful aim)
I made the mistake of playing Doom 2016 for an hour before this so the 30fps was quite a shock at first. Also, whats the green around screen edge? I also have a sword which is aces.

Have they increased the power of the Warlock buffing (I can't think of a better way to put this) supers.
I play as a support class in games but those abilities always seemed pitifully rubbish compared to attacking supers.
I don't think anyone ever noticed my extra grenades super for example and I always got frustrated when I'd say that its in effect and hardly anyone bothers chucking grenades.

Also, I don't know what the 'factions' are, anecdotally there seems to be 3 races or whatever cos they are always fighting each other as I wander about. Waiting till im level 800 to do a strike (im 786 or something).

Strikes are generally super low level activities so I wouldn't worry about jumping right in. BUT! You should really be picking up Bounties from the Tower. Zavala gives Strike based missions, Shaxx Crucible, Drifter Gambit and Banshee-44 weapons based goals. Each Weekly (as opposed to the smaller Daily) bounty will give you a big chunk of XP (which, is pretty useless unless you're doing the Season Pass) as well as vendor tokens and, in Banshee's case, weapon upgrade items. They add a sense of direction to the game and really help get you on the way to higher light levels.

The Warlock Well of Radiance (big healing AoE ability) is one of the most sought after supers in raids and endgame content. It's probably the Super I've run the most actually. It's still impossible to run as a complete support class (although there are support weapons now, like the damage-increasing Divinity) but you can definitely play as a healing Warlock.
