This is definitely the best Destiny has been since the launch of the Taken King. The new patrol area, Tangled Shore is easily my favourite one yet and its as big as any of the ones from the main game. The new enemies do actually feel substantially different from fighting normal Fallen and they're massively less annoying than the Taken.
I think the campaign is probably the best one yet too, and it get's so much better once Cayde's shitty Deadpool-esque humour dies with him. Loved the scale of the first few missions with the prison breakout and all the gooseberry fool going on around it. Most of the baron hunt quests were pretty unique compared to the usual boss fights, my personal favourite was the one fighting on pikes. When you complete the main campaign a whole new patrol area opens up but it's pretty high level and it looks like this is where the new raid will be accessed from too. This is where the new Blind Well activity is and that's just a newer version of Court of Oryx/Archon's Forge/Escalation Protocol.
I haven't done all of the new strikes yet but the ones I have are all brand new and not just lazily recycled story missions like in Curse of Osiris or Warmind. One new strike in particular is one of the best they've ever done
you go through part of the Prison of Elders and one of the sections takes place the arena you fought Skolas in D1 PoE, complete with dismantling mines followed by a mini-boss fight. It even has a rogue servitor as the new prison warden mimicking Varik's voice I feel overwhelmed with stuff to do now because there's so many bounties from the various vendors and the daily and weekly stuff has been completely revamped. There's still the weekly flashpoints, nightfall etc but there's daily stuff that rewards a powerful engram and it looks like it changes from a heroic mission, a strike, a gambit match etc. every day.
They seem to have massively toned down the drop rate of mods (these are meant to drop in the wild but they're either extremely rare or aren't dropping at all but Bungie are "looking into it" so you know what that means
) and exotic too. I'm fine with them making exotic rarer if they've made it so getting duplicate exotic drops is now extremely rare or doesn't happen at all until you've got most of them.
Gambit mode can be fun but currently it's just full of invaders one-shotting people with Sleeper Simulant and there's some dodgy matchmaking too with groups of solo players being put against full parties.
Not sure about the economy changes they've made with infusion requiring 25 planetary materials and masterwork cores now as well as legendary shards, but it's early days just now.
