Destiny 2: The Witch Queen out now

I decided to boot up Destiny 2 and now I’ve got free two expansions which are Curse of Osiris and Warmind. :lol:

Are they giveaway two DLCs for free?

Yep (they're not very good though)

From what I understand it:

All year 1 content is free (base game, Osiris & Warmind)
The locations from Forsaken are free to explore but you don’t get the story missions
All strikes, pvp and gambit maps are free for everyone.

I think there's also a free power booster as well to get you to a pretty high level instantly although I'm not sure if you get any items.

This seems like a pretty sensible idea as people with friends who've never bought the game can now give it a try for nothing and there's a fair bit of content. I can't really see any downside to this.

Hmm... I didn’t get a free power booster.

I’ll have a look at it when I play it sometime this weekend.

The down side is probably that they're going to introduce more micro transactions

Undoubtedly. The Eververse store has already transformed into a Fornite-esque haven of premium currency.

It's a comparatively small price to pay.

The power boost thing just now is done at the character select screen but I think it's just something you got when buying Forsaken.

I just can't play this game any more. It controls like absolute gooseberry fool on console.

I know very little about Destiny 2... but I have a copy on my PS4 and I'm trying to work out what bits of the game I have and how this new Shadowkeep expansion fits in... as well as the free-to-start New Light version. I've looked on the PS Store and the Bungie website but I still can't work it out :lol:

So there is the base game (which I think is what I have); then Osiris and Warmind expansions (which are now free, I think, but I don't know how you get them); then the Forsaken expansion (which still costs £35?) and another pass (?), then Shadowkeep (which is £30 and includes Osiris and Warmind... but not Forsaken?). I can't trace what New Light is... perhaps just the base game - which is what I've got?

Am I being daft or has it gotten a bit confusing?

Uuuurgh, sad to see it's still as confusing as ever. Destiny has always been a confusing proposition and this has made it all worse unfortunately.

So I think you're generally correct there jawa. New Light is simply the name for the free version of the game which, I think, includes all year 1 content (so Osiris and Warmind). What's not mentioned is the Season Pass content (Black Armoury, Gambit Prime and the Menagerie) and I have no idea if they're now free with Shadowkeep. There's also the upcoming Season of the Undying which I assume will kick off a new Season Pass for 2020.

Destiny 2: New Light will make the base game, the first two expansions, the PvEvP mode Gambit, and open-world areas free for everyone. Further expansions and content seasons will be sold separately, as well as more microtransaction cosmetic doodads

They could have easily just drawn up a chart explaining it, but knowing bungie it would end up being a confusing mess.

Any idea if the free to play version will require Ps plus?

I think you can play the story missions but other activities will be blocked off.

I am strawberry-floatin' awful at FPS games, though; the pace is often way too fast for me. I might take a look at the game and see how I get on.

Anyone getting Shadowkeep tomorrow/today UK time?

Got it preloaded and just waiting for the servers to be switched on.

I'm hoping it equals Forsaken, which is probably the best thing Bungie have ever put out with regards to Destiny. I actually liked the Season Pass model too, as though it was a little grindy at times, I do think that they did enough for seasoned players to keep the game going over the course of a year. Each season was worth a tenner in my eyes.

Also as a reminder, the base game and all the year one stuff, and the Forsaken season pass (but not Forsaken itself) is free to play now and worth a try. Some of the Year 3 Shadowkeep stuff is going to be accessible too, such as the Moon patrol zone.
