Haven't and am not currently planning on buying Shadowkeep but I'm going back on tonight to have a look around and...yeah. I've been in the queue for about 20 minutes now.

I just can't be arsed with the constant Bungie buff everything/whoops you're too powerful let's nerf everything cycle any more. Waste of time getting invested in levelling up equipment that'll just be rendered worse because they can't balance a game.

I dunno, that happens with every live service game and I've never really felt any of the nerfs too badly. Like, it took me ages to get the IKELOS shotgun aka teh best wepon in da game and Bungie nerfed it almost immediately after. In doing so, they buffed another gun, Lord of Wolves, so I started using that instead.

Permanent balance is impossible when you're constantly adding content.

Given up on this for the night, the queue isn't going down and apparently people are getting kicked left right and centre.

I was watching a stream of this last night, is the opening area of the expansion that moon crucible map from Destiny 1? Very Bungie if so.

The most of the (layout at least) of the moon area will be very familiar to anyone that’s played D1

Think I’m nearing the end of the ‘basic’ campaign

Not a patch on Foresaken in terms on engagement but will have to see how it opens up afterwards

I've already got vanilla Destiny 2, but if I download this free version game I continue where I left off?
Also do I need PS Plus to play?

I think if you haven't completed the campaign before this then your progress will be wiped. I think you can play without PS Plus but the stuff you can do is pretty restricted.

New raid looks pretty boring so far.

For returning players who don't have Shadowkeep this is...bad. There're no markers on the Director at all anymore, so I've literally no idea which activities will give me drops worth farming.

It's incredibly offputting.

That's an odd design decision.
I can't see any reason they would remove such useful information as like you say all it does is frustrate people who may be considering getting Shadowkeep.

I think it's just the usual daily and weekly stuff minus the raid?

This is what I see when I log in. The gold mark against the Tower leads to nothing, incidentally. The quest on the left is Shadowkeep based too.

I downloaded the base game the other night after seeing on here that it was free. Haven't got round to giving it a go yet, but what should I be expecting? Is it any good? I'm not interested (at all, in any way) in spending any money on this so I'm not going to be getting any of the DLC, is it worth bothering with the base game and does that have any longevity?

Depends.

The shooting is best in class throughout the entire thing, so that's worth experiencing alone. The base campaign is pretty average, but is lengthy and has lots of that excellent shooting. The two expansions you get free with New Light are pretty mixed, the first being terrible and the second OK. You'll have access to the first Raid which you'll have to find 5 other player to team up with (which can be done through the Find a Fireteam page on the Bungie website) and that's pretty exciting if you've never done one before. The game only gets really good with Forsaken, which you'll have to plonk down £20 for.

Saying that, I originally got the base game when it was free a while back and I ended up dropping cash on both Forsaken and the Annual Pass (the content made available by the latter is now free with Forsaken btw.)

Which platform are you on? If there are enough people on here with the PC version of New Light we should get a Leviathan raid group together. I'm Tafdolphin on Steam if you couldn't guess.
