I went back to Destiny 1 with a new character to do the story, during the month or so of lockdown/working from home here.

I regret it now, as it means the Cosmodrome doesn't give me that nostalgia hit.

Regarding blues and greens, Luke Smith has said that the rarity system is pretty messed up, as it doesn' really show rarity but functionality. You have all these blues and greens that just are never used. And legendaries aren't rare, they are just the standard. There are only really two tiers.

There's a glitch at the moment meaning the Widow's Walk lost sector boss in the EDZ is dropping loot 10 levels too high. Took me about 40 minutes to go from 1130 to 1200.

As getting to the soft cap is relatively dull, I had no problem taking advantage of it so now I can actually use my Beyond Light loot for a while

Nah think it's been patched.

https://twitter.com/BungieHelp/status/1 ... 89024?s=19

I'll go try it out now, though I managed to miss it all before due to being asleep.

EDIT - Yeah, no loot drop at all from it just now.

if you go to the quest kiosk in tower you can get the new starting campaign for cosmodrome It’s a complete rehash of destiny 1 but nice and nostalgic - also rewards gear upgrades so nice ‘filler’ between beyond light missions to get power up

Yeah, there's a lot more meat there than I anticipated. It's a really nice mix of old and new: got some serious nostalgia heading back to the old Loot Cave.

I'm not often one to side with Reddit rage-lords but still

https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame ... urce=share

According to this post Bungie have sunset around 75% of Legendaries at this point. Beyond Light adds 6% new ones. This means since BL launched, players have 69% less weapons and armour to choose from.

Hmm.

Good to hear the mostly positive impressions. I only started playing it at the end of September when the expansions dropped on Game Pass. Played most days and completed all the campaigns before some of them left plus Strikes etc. Enjoyed it a lot, more than I thought I would. Stopped playing just before the XSX launch.

Now taking a break until the next-gen patch comes out. No idea what Cosmodrome is but looking forward to finding out.

Reddit has been a nightmare this week. Just constant topics on the same thing, making the whole sjbreddit an angry echo chamber.

They do tend to make their minds up about a thing in advance, and then strawberry floating hammer it home constantly about two hours after launch. They did it with the Dex cut in Pokémon Sword/Shield, and I still had a great time with it.

I get the logic of the argument - no loot in a loot - but it ignores the fact that the problem with Destiny loot has often been that only a dozen or so weapons tend to be viable depending on your playstyle. This was the reason for sunset, as Revoker, Mountaintop, Recluse etc were just so powerful they were the automatic choice.

There were loads of guns, but no-one used all of them. Most legendaries I dismantled upon getting them - every sword that wasn't FG, every rocket launcher, every grenade launcher, every fusion rifle.

If Destiny has a loot problem, it has a problem with viable loot.

People mention how many Forsaken weapons there were but how many were used? A lot of the sunset stuff was loot that was obslete due to being eclipsed. How many people actually played and grinded for those Forsaken guns? How much of an incentive were they?

I'm actually fine with sunsetting if it's done well. I'm fine with using guns for a year and then being forced to change my set up and tactics. The Reddit playerbase doesn't like that though - they've always wanted to use the same guns and loadouts and infinitum.

Armour is a different matter though. Not being able to use armour with great rolls is a bit of a bugger. There's not power creep with armour and they should have carried that forward. Transmog would mean you could still hunt down new armour for new styles and appearances.

I think I generally disagree here.

If you're min-maxing and playing the game purely to eke out every drop of efficiency you can from each build then I understand. But if you're playing for fun, less weapons in the loot pool means less options on playstyles, and less options mean less incentive. Like, for example there are a few grenade launchers that are actually really good, or at least they feel good. You may trash them automatically but I wouldn't because, hey, we have different preferences!

The new Beyond Light weapons are great so far, but the fact that one of the main campaign quest rewards is a Sniper that's been in the game for more than 2 years says a lot. I understand why outliers like Mountaintop and Recluse needed to go, but removing 75% of the loot pool with very little addition is...bad. it's bad. Not rage inducing bad, but bad.

I too do not disagree with sunsetting as long as, like you say, it was done well. I don't think it has been though, at least not in the short term. Sure in a few seasons we might be back up to where we were post-Beyond Light, but considering the Content Vaulting of huge swathes of the game alongside it, sunsetting right now is serving to make the game feel much, much smaller than it was a month ago.

Oh, and I actually did grind out the Forsaken weapons somewhat, and the Shadowkeep ones too. I still remember with dread the day I accidentally trashed my killclip/ramage Misfit, and I still love my Subsistence/Demolitionist Gnawing Hunger.

Double post lol but that's the campaign done. Thoughts:

Like most of Bungie's campaigns it struggled with storytelling, but nowhere near as much as Shadowkeep or even Forsaken. It was clunky, with most of the promise from the initial trailers going unutilised, but I'd still say it's the best campaign they've done, probably ever. That's no great shakes considering the quality of previous efforts, and the real meat of the world still lurks below the surface in lore and sidequests, but overall I was happy with it.

I'm also super happy that the content hasn't ended with the campaign, and that you're immediately gifted a Stranger quest and Exotic task. The former is especially interesting, given the excellent lore revealed in the CE journal.

TL;Dr - probably the best campaign Destiny's ever had, although that's not saying much.

Edit: Should probably mention I only played D1 vanilla, so never experienced the Taken King.

They’re trying to offset this sun setting debacle by saying you can still use the weapons in activities where power level is irrelevant, which is...Gambit and the Crucible. To me that’s not good enough. I’m not that hardcore in Destiny, gooseberry fool I only unlocked Breakneck about 9 months ago, and now it’s useless. Same with loads of weapons I liked.
I’m about 60% through the campaign, and my highlight has been the boss battles...absolutely excellent. One was pretty bloody hard, which was a surprise! The Technocrat.

Taken King was incredible. Decent-sized story campaign, lots of post-story missions, three new subclasses that were all great, new strikes, lots of good new exotics, new horde activity (Court of Oryx) and all the story threads lead up to one of the best raids they've done in Kings Fall. That and the big sandbox update they did shortly before the game resulted in probably the best state the game has ever been in.

Warning

If you a abandon a fragment quest to pick up the other option to compare, you can’t pick up a new one or reclaim old one :(

All that and the Dreadnaught! That does sounds a great deal larger than BL.

I still think it's a great campaign, even if the story stuff I wished they'd gone into more (the Darkness itself, the Stranger and her deal) was sidelined to deal with Eramis, who wasn't really given the time to become a character (even if she was a far better villain than The Barons/Uldren).

I'm definitely still impressed with the amount of post campaign content, but the lack of loot really is settling in now. Europa is full of little puzzles and encounters but all of them end in a few thousand glimmer and usually a blue, sometimes a low level purple I've seen a thousand times before. What's the point in completing a multi-stage patrol zone puzzle if all you're getting is a slide-shot specced Gnawing Hunger and enough glimmer for a single repeatable quest?
