They recorded some crowd chanting for the Charizard battle scene at the Pokemon World Championships a few months ago. Good times.

I remember when they announced this I was utterly dismissive of it. Thought it would be utterly shite.
Now I can't think of a film I want to see more apart from Avengers 4.

The main issue with the Pokemon is seeing them in a realistic setting, rather than the usual cartoony/anime style we have come to associate... Mr Mime looks utterly terrifying for example...
That being said, I am entirely on board...

Pikachu's smooth look was fine in the anime, where realistic detail isn't important, but in a live action/CG combo movie with a slightly more realistic bent you have to expect some visual changes.
I think he looks adorable.

Really? It looks like a very clever way of doing a live action Pokemon film-mixing in comedy and Ryan Reynolds will appeal to a wider audience than just kids. I think this has the potential to be huge.
For sure but I would have thought they'd play it safe as there's not need for them to be radical with the property. As someone else said, I expected this to be Ryan Reynolds live actions with a CGI Pikachu sidekick doing funny crazy stuff.

The film version of Pikachu looks very cute, actually looks like what I'd expect a real life Pikachu to look like. Fluffy fur due to the electricity running through it's body.

I'm on the fence about how I feel about a fluffy Pikachu.
I think I'll have to see the film 8 times next year to make my mind up.
