Dexter New Blood [Nov 7 21 on Showtime]

I'm pretty sure it was the plot for a whole season jammed into one gooseberry fool episode. strawberry floating awful.

Mind you, the 4th season turned into the blue steel a-team so it was already dead.

Just watched the first episode of series 8. Thought it was pretty crap.

A shame after the extensive wait since the surprisingly good series 7.

I thought it was pretty weak too, a lot of classic cringe-worthy lazy Dexter writing, which last season avoided more often than not.

Over these last couple of seasons I've been thinking back; was the show ever actually properly good? I mean I loved the first, second, parts of the third, and the fourth seasons but I'm wondering if its relative newness before the fatigue really set in, combined with some good villains and generally exciting scenarios, just covered up cracks that were always there.

I know what you mean there. Parts of Season 6 in particular had me, at first, thinking "this is becoming really formulaic". Then after a while I started thinking that maybe it was all pretty formulaic but the plotholes were a little less apparent to begin with because it was new and different.

I dunno, I kind of enjoyed the newest episode but I think partly because it was just familiar. I'm interested enough to see how the season pans out though, so I'll reserve proper judgement until the end.

DL taking forever

Awful series so far, what a waste :fp:

It's very slow paced for the first two episodes. Not feeling it but i'll still watch because it Dexter.

Plus Deb is going off the rails

I thought the pacing was much faster than usual. The new woman confronted Dexter about being a killer in the first episode, Quinn's secret affair was outed in episode 2 when it could easily have dragged on all season, and Deb's new mates are getting killed already.

Still not into this season yet, but it seems to be moving quite fast to me, and I expect there will be some big shake ups soon with it being the last season (NOT "Season Finale" :fp:

).

I really enjoyed the second episode. Vogel's a great character to introduce for the last season.

I do like Vogel, I wish they'd introduced her a few seasons back.

And I've liked that. It really became very boring in the fifth and sixth season.

This whole season should be him on the run, not going back down the incest route.

Debra's been the best part of the show for a while now.

But yeah, I just hope by the time everything comes crumbling down (it has to eventually, right?) that there's plenty of time in the season to make it as good as it should be.

I enjoyed the second episode a lot more but I have a terrible feeling it could all been undone by a classic Dexter twist later on. I mean the odds that Vogel is actually behind all the killings and that the entire thing is one elaborate final test to see if she succeeded in achieving whatever her ultimate goals are in the experiment that is Dexter's life surely have to be pretty high considering some of the stupid gooseberry fool the show has pulled in the past.

This could and should be great, come on sort it out ffs.

Oh and I take it angel isn't dying now he's stopped banging on about wetirement.

Well at least it seems like Vogel isn't the killer.

Still wouldn't put it past the writers to pull off something like that even though now it would make even less sense. We'll see.

Seeing the kill room for the first time this season made me realise how much I've appreciated them abandoning the kill of the week formula.

That scene with Deb was great. Overall, I like the direction everything is heading. The pieces are being put into place to allow for a potentially great endgame although there's still plenty of time for everything to fall apart.

I'm enjoying this season so far. There's a fuckload of dread. It, finally, feels like the end of the series.

Yeah, that's what I thought from the first episode. The episode 4 preview showed that she's a psycho shouting at Deb. Forget all the exonerating evidence of her finding stuff on her door- that's just to fool us. But then again maybe she is just a psycho and not a killer.

It's all gotta end with Dexter being shamed and exposed.
