strawberry floating awful, how did anyone think that was a good line?

And I believed, for a few episodes early on, that they may actually pull it all off. :(

I miss when Dexter was all about catching the smart bastards who slipped through the cracks and escaped justice. Now he's hampering police efforts to kill people who would otherwise have justice served. :fp: And didn't he used to be scared of blood. I seem to remember him hating blood, despite being a splatter analyst. He used to get panic attacks, now he gets boners.

What does he do this week? Use his OWN PHONE to call a potential crime scene, to ask about someone who might get murdered. STOP LINKING YOURSELF TO CRIMES DIPSHIT.

He used to have flashbacks of the blood around his mother. He was never scared of blood.

There was one episode which made him feel sick but that was the amount of blood.

Trouble is dexter himself has become unlikeable. He's just a bit of a dick all the time. In the first few series he was nice guy and funny while "pretending" to be human. He targeted real scum and was methodical. Now he is stupid, rash in his action and acts illogically. He treats those around him with contempt and has a smug arrogance. Find it very hard to root for him now. In truth I want him to get caught.

Even Deborah has become annoying, she gave up her one redeeming feature, her relentless drive to get the baddies.

She's become dexters side kick :fp:

It all went Downhill without Rita. She was the heart of the show and a moral compass.

But she was important in making dexter relatable and likeable and the tension of him keeping her in the dark was good. Now he doesn't see to care who knows where he is at all hours of the night, he has loads of people snooping his apartment and generally does what he wants when he wants.

As a bachelor dexter doesn't seem right, as a family man he was much more likeable.

The family man was all an act at the start as cover for his murderous hobby. The trinity series convinced him that it wasn't worth the bother and he enjoys killing more than sex.

I think the most recent series have made me forget just how good the earlier ones were. Watching that scene again was way better than most of the show's output in the past 3/4 seasons.

The worst part about the most recent episode:

Quinn catches Dexter stalking that young murder suspect and says "What are you doing? I know what you're doing - you're playing detective". Quinn should have been more suspicious than that. Catching Dexter like that should have caused Dexter a lot more grief than it did.

guys some of you are analysing the show a bit heavily in some places but then not thinking what you're saying. Dexter has gradually changed and evolved over time and yes is a bit more cockier but also he has shown at points that he isn't just a straight up serial killer who needs the kill and can restrain himself more when required due to his son being involved and his priorities have changed through the series. In the beginning the family was a cover up to show some normality and that gradually changed.

Anyway i'm enjoying the show as i always have but maybe i don't ruin the show for myself by over analysing scripts etc, i get no fun out of that and really don't have the time. No show is perfect every episode but the quality of the show is amazingly high still and i will be gutted when it's gone. Also my other favourite show Burn Notice is finishing this season. I'll need to find something else to get addicted to.

Does anyone else think the eighth season feels like a pointless and unnecessary addition, commissioned by people who care less about the integrity of the series and more about money? Maybe it should have ended shortly after Laguerta's death with one more episode to deal with the fallout.

Jesus, this week's episode is just awful. Dramatically inert, no tension, it's just ambling along to the finish line. At least the ending opens up a potentially interesting conflict, but I feel like I'm just watching out of obligation to see how it ends now, not because I really want to any more.

That's exactly how I feel. There's no build up to anything in this season, it just seems to exist simply to extend the series beyond season 7.

The more it goes on the more Im thinking that the ending to 7 would have been a decent place to end it.

One more episode after Laguerta's death would have done it for me. It could have shown, for example, Deb turning herself in to the police and Dexter then being arrested or shot dead.

The past few episodes have been really poor, especially after the season started off promisingly.

I particularly enjoyed how Dexter berated Zach for turning up at his appartment, then they proceeded to go the the club together, have a nice chat at Miami Metro and Dex planned to go the Zach's studio. The supporting stories are terrible too, and haven't really added anything yet.

There's still time to build up to a decent confrontation, but the season has disappointed a lot so far.
