Complete waste. I think pretty much everyone wanted him to be found out before the end, to give it some tension, but then I stopped liking dexter ages ago, I wanted him to get caught for being such a dick.

Total fluff. Nothing clicked together, plot lines were just abandoned, no characters had any real resolution. Nothing from the previous 7 series had any bearing on the ending. Utter GASH.

Thank god that's over :fp:

This show will be remembered fondly...As people will remember how awful it was compared to Breaking Bad, then they'll remember that they really should watch BB again and they'll have Dexter to thank for that.

Just finished the last 3 episodes tonight. :dread:

Nothing happened for the most part, much like the rest of the season but basically everything that the fans didn't want to happen, happened.

The only character in the entire show who deserved to have a happy ending gets royally strawberry floated up the arse for no real reason, while Dexter really should have died/been arrested, gets away with the life of a lumberjack.

strawberry float knows what the show writers were thinking for the entire final season. Just awful stuff.

Oh, and if that Hannah and Harrison spin off show happens... :dread:

A spin off?! :dread:

A guy I work with stopped watching this just after the trinity series (wise choice) and he asked me how it finished.

I first asked how he thought the last series would have played out..

"Dexter goes on the run or gets found out. Kind if like series 2 but better"

I told him what actually happened and he just burst out laughing :slol:

Dexter Producer: Showtime wouldn’t let us kill Dexter: http://www.vulture.com/2013/10/dexter-w ... exter.html  :fp:

Showtime TV executives are the worst.

Nah. Even if that were the case, the writers should have done a lot better than creating what actually transpired.

He could have been caught and sent to death row. That's not directly killing him.

Yup, just move now you've watched season 4, find a new show. Trust us on this one, ignorance is bliss...

I wish I'd known that. Watched 20 minutes of the next season and tarnished my memories.

I've been hiding from this thread cos the gf and I have just watched 1-8 since the start of December. :slol:

What really, really stuck me was that I think they had series 7 cued up to be the finale. La Guerta was onto him, the net was closing in. But then Showtime decide they're going to commission another series and they're all like 'strawberry float, we're out of ideas.'

So they end up filling S7 with random plots like Quinn's stripper. And because they are mediocre writers, under pressure to wazz something out asap, we end up with the abortion that was S8. S7 could and possibly should have ended up with Deb doing the right thing, proving that Harry did indeed manage to raise one good kid. If she shot him in the container it would have been one of the all-time greatest season endings, IMO.

Instead, we got S8, which was so full of bullshit. What was the strawberry floating point of Masuka's daughter, FFS? Why did Hannah poison Dexter and Deb, only for nothing to happen? I mean, gooseberry fool, he got left at the side of the road  And I was going insane at Hannah's insistence at wandering round undisguised. It defied all belief and reason.

S5 was ok, S6 & S7 were tolerable. S8 was one of the worst things I have watched. And I watched it all, hoping it would get better (it didn't, it got worse and worse and worse).

Season 5 wasn't that bad in retrospect, it just paled next to 4. 6 was dreadful after a promising start. 7 was all over the place, but Ray Stevenson was brilliant. So of course as with Mos Def in S6 they killed off the most interesting character. Two episodes in, 8 looked like it might have an interesting central hook, but they totally wasted it. Bringing Hannah back was a terrible idea, and then it just degenerated into farce.

An escaped serial killer, yet apparently no one's looking for her, and she manages to evade those who are by...well, doing nothing. I mean, she looked identical. Some kind of token effort to change her appearance might have been something, but she was strolling around in broad daylight without a care in the world. Then there was the godawful bit with Harrison on the treadmill; the bit where Dexter 'stalks' Saxon by staring at him through a restaurant window for an hour, then wondering how he could possibly have been spotted; and best of all the finale, where Deb handily absolves Dex of all his crimes before carking it, while everyone in the entirety of Miami instantly becomes the victim of some kind of eye disease which means they can't see a serial killer dripping blood through a car park knock a man out before stealing his car (again in broad daylight, with lots of people in the vicinity), while Dexter carries a body out of a hospital without a single person stopping him at any stage.

FWIW, I don't think it was a happy ending at all - death would have been a predictable end, and a form of escape for Dexter. Instead he's left completely alone to suffer a life devoid of any meaningful human contact, together with the knowledge that he's basically responsible for killing his sister, while never being able to see the woman he loves and his son again. On paper, that doesn't actually sound like a terrible idea, it was just handled in the most ham-fisted way possible. I mean, quite apart from leaving your son with a serial killer who poisoned you and your sister a few weeks back, but for some reason is happy to tit about in Argentina with the world's dumbest kid, despite showing no prior maternal instincts nor desire to raise Harrison either alone or with Dexter.

But apart from that it was fine.
