From Blizzcon, the new mobile only Diablo game.

Release Date and PC announcement trailer:

Trailer:

Full announcement with gameplay footage:

It didn't seem like the announcement went down well with fans at the event, though.

Despite the reaction at Blizzcon, this is almost a guaranteed money maker for Blizzard, I'll probably even try it myself if it's not too pay 2 win. But it's safe to say that the hardcore Diablo crowd probably aren't their actual target audience for this. It must really sting for series fans to see quality of life improvements they've been asking for previously, come to a new platform and be told there are absolutely no plans to bring this over to PC, though.

It seems odd that they'd announce it this way, but I guess Blizzcon is their big event to do all announcements at once. Maybe the bad reaction will get buried under the other news.

I feel bad for thos devs, fans being all entitled.

Probably should have predicted that reaction though

Mobile (phone / tablet) gaming is in an odd place. Most "keen gamers" associate it with "rip off"... which is perhaps harsh but probably true in many cases. The major publishers have caused this reaction through their approach and that image is gonna be hard to change.

It would be nice to see a mobile game actually succeed without the pay to win mechanics that have become synonymous with the platform. But this is Acti-Blizzard, so I'm not holding my breath.

How hard can it be to just make Diablo IV using a slightly tweaked Diablo 3 engine?

I mean, do you think it's not coming at some point?

I'll give this a try out of curiosity on Nox (android emulator), but I'm expecting microtransactions everywhere - have they even announced their monetisation model?

I wonder if Qikz was at that announcement?

Would be interesting to see what he thought if he was.

But yeah, utter banana splits booing and asking the questions.

Of course it's coming but hopefully not at the pace that D3 took between announcement and actual release.

Using the D3 engine would simply allow them to focus on the more important aspects such as balancing issues, net code optimisation and bug fixing that take the most time to perfect.

He was, he was so livid he tried storming the stage and got taken away by the FBI.

Is what people there did any different to the uproar here when EA announced C&C for mobile, or is it different because we are above those mega nerds or because EA arem't liked as much as Blizzard?

I hate mobile phone gaming because I want a joystick and buttons. If they make it so it can take controller input then I'll give it a go.

This must be the corporate side seeing Diablo making gooseberry fool tonnes of money and seeing mobile making gooseberry fool tonnes of money and then forcing the devs to merge the two. There's no way Blizzard devs are this unaware of who and what their core userbase are.

Wouldn't be surprised if we see this on Switch in the future.

banana splits for booing, how?

Completely tone deaf of Blizzard to announce it at the event.

Imagine working months and months on a new game only to get booed live on stage when you announce it

Agreed. You invite thousands of your most hardcore fans to a conference, and announce a F2P mobile game? You're lucky all they did was boo

And there have been rumours of a new Diablo doing the rounds for *ages* which no doubt got everyone in a frenzy. (There have also been various things going up on their store, etc which haven't helped.) Blizzard should have made a statement which explicitly told everyone that Diablo 4 would not be announced. This is where they could have done that: https://us.diablo3.com/en/blog/22549433 ... 10-17-2018 Something along the lines of There will be no Diablo 4 news at BlizzCon '18, but we have multiple teams working on Diablo and we may share something a bit different at BC18. But because of their bullshit Diablo 3 Switch teases and denials no one would have believed them anyway. I don't think Blizz should have been booed but they sure as strawberry float helped make that mess and deserve criticism for it.

I hope Diablo Immortal goes on to have Fortnite levels of success, so Blizzard put all their resources into it and never make Diablo 4. And scrap BlizzCon.
