Did anyone ever play all the final fantasy 13 games?

Were they fun, ikba to go and find actual reviews of them so I'm just gonna ask here if it's worth getting beyond the "moms are tough" guff at the start of 13

Guff is a good word for Final Fantasy XIII and it is down hill from there.

A stinking steaming pile of gooseberry fool that's an embarrassment to the series. It's the only one I stopped playing before completion and vowed to never play again.

Can't say anything about the cash in sequels but I can imagine the indifferent reviews are fairly accurate. Sure someone on here will have enjoyed the game but it's utter trash imo. Genuinely enjoyed the remake of the 30+ year old original more.

Was XIII the "but you have to play it for 35 hours before it gets good" one?

Depends on what you want from the games. If it's spectacle, pretty damn good production values and a decent combat system you're in luck. If you want a coherent, easy-to-follow story and character development...well, maybe not so much. The first of the trilogy looks the best (it's diminishing returns from thereon in). On consoles, I'd recommend getting the XB1X 'updated' versions - they have the best visual quality outside of the PC versions (including HD video cut-scenes, which the PC doesn't have). XIII is divisive - I'm not a hardcore FF fan so I don't care for the hate the trilogy gets because I have never been invested the FF IP. Personally, I love the XIII trilogy - it was a moment in time, a daft but utterly beguiling rabbit hole to fall down, but to each their own.

Yes, but it never really got good. It just kinda went from bad to still bad but now there are hunting side quests.

Among the hardcore? I think so. I can take or leave her. She’s... complicated. High-maintenance. She gets her moment to shine in Lightning Returns - with a ton of great outfits to fool about in - and her theme music, especially the quieter mix (‘A Distant Glimmer’), is heart breaking. But all the XIII OSTs are a major part of the draw for me.

Yeah I played them all. They got better as they went along imo

Played XIII-2 until the last bit, realised I didn't give a gooseberry fool and binned it.

Didn't play the last one.

Played them all, completed FFXIII and FFXIII-2. Gave up on Lightning Returns.

Thought FFXIII was okay/decent. Not a good Final Fantasy game, but an okay game in its own right. Story had me intrigued and the music and visuals appealed.
The games got worse as they went on though IMO...FFXIII-2 was bearable, but completely forgettable, and lost its way quite a lot.
Lightning Returns I could only stomach for a few hours before the boredom, confusion and tedium was too much.

If they could've kept the plot coherent, kept the same battle system throughout the series (which I liked), and just made it all more succinct, it could've been good as a standalone entry in the series. It didn't need to be split out over 3 games, but for whatever reason (financial, presumably) they dragged the plot out way more than it could realistically handle, so it ended up being full of nonsense and filler, and they lost all focus and any signs from the first game that it could've been good.

The battle theme in FFXIII is strawberry floating good though. I must admit that.

I stopped playing the 1st one as the voice acting was terrible, the characters were unlikable and annoying and the maps were just a 3m wide corridor with some bends. I found the story interesting enough but not enough to put up with my other issues with the game. Maybe one day I'll see if I can change the language of the voice acting and just use English subtitles.

I gave Lightning Returns a try but only managed an hour before giving up with boredom. Never tried the second one.

I have hate love realtionship with ff13 (mostly hate) but FF13-2 I loved a lot. It's not one of best FF games, sure, but I really enjoyed it enough to have it beaten+all achievements obtained, which I never did with the original at all.

If you can get them for cheap worth a go and see if you like them, but don't push yourself just to get better part of the game. If you genuinely dislike it then just stop.
