God this is crap, I just thought I'd give it one last fair play session as it's been patched.

Piss poor AI, lag on the audio, soggy wheel controls with next to no road feedback, dude bro cringe-cast, big frame drops even on performance mode, no choice in online multiplayer - it just puts you in a race and that's that.

I really want to like this but I'm pissed off I paid full price at launch and will probably just sell it cheap now.

Not played D3 but have to agree re D4. That was much better. Will have to reinstall that at some point once I get through some games

Doesn’t sound like I missed much by not opting for this in the end then, doesn’t sound like it’s worth the time downloading it when I re-subscribe to Game Pass later in the year too.

Codemasters seem very hit or miss at the moment, the F1 series are only getting better and better (barring the micro transaction that are creeping in more and more sadly) but then we have the DiRT series (Rally seems good still, which could bode well for when they have the WRC licence from 2023 or 2024) which just doesn’t seem to be in a good place recently.

F1 2020 is really good.

Dirt rally 2.0 is brilliant.

Dirt 5 is just ok.

I need a rally game for my Series X once I’ve finished Valhalla as then I’m aiming to play a lot more racing games, WRC 8 was really good even on the Switch so I’m leaning towards WRC 9 over DiRT Rally 2.0 at the moment.

Sold mine on eBay for £25 (so about 20 quid back). The loss of about half of my save progress and continued crashes back to the PS5 menus killed it for me.

Hopefully by the time this appears on PS Plus they'll have actually fixed it, but by then I may have moved on to something else...such as WRC 9.

Biggest disappointment from Codemasters that I've played since No Fear Downhill Mountain Biking.

The framerate is the big one for me. I don't care if it's 30, 60 or whatever, but it's that it drops so drastically and fluctuates all the time on the majority of tracks that makes it very jarring to play.

You'd be better off sticking on SEGA Rally (the good one on PS3/360, not that shite they pushed out on PS2 somewhere) which has far better track deformation.

I think I played the Sega Rally game on the 360, was rather good from what I remember! Just seen that WRC 9 Deluxe is on sale for £23.99 on the Microsoft store, might have to jump at that price even if I’m not planning on playing it for a while!

Are you sure you want to do that? It seems like a prime Game Pass candidate down the road (chuckle). I dont buy anything for my Xbox now unless i am going to play it almost immediately. Or if the sale is crazy cheap. I can only imagine WRC 9 poping up more and more frequently in promotions.

Have the WRC games been put on Game Pass before? Thought it was just the DiRT ones really. That’s the main thing putting me off though, just won’t get round to playing it for ages

Gamepass and Gold freebies. The last one was WRC 8 on Gold last summer. I think They've given 5 with gold too and 6 and 7 were Gamepass. Or some combination like that. I have WRC8 installed since last year but haven't been in much of a rush as it looked almost identical to WRC7 which was awful

Back to Dirt5, I have to agree that this game is bad. Somehow worse than the 4th game. I can't think of a single good thing about this one  performance issues, not rewarding, tracks and boring, it feels short, the 3 mini challenges during a race are the worst and don't lend themselves to being completed with the awful AI, the AI is awful, the menus are not very usable, the dudebro who talks constantly about their lifestory, the physics are bad (my car rolled over after hitting a flat vertical wall as if it was a scoop)

WRC 8 was very good, even on the Switch hence my interest in WRC 9 at some point in the future.

I recall hearing how DiRT 4 was pretty good so it does make you wonder how DiRT 5 is seemingly worse in almost every way possible

Dirt 4 was great, perfect balance of arcade and sim. Real white knuckle stuff. 5 is not that, but it seems "ok". Its jut doesnt stand out in any way (although the rumble through the pad based on different terrain is kind of neat).

I'm wondering if I should give this another go but just use the pad (which I hate to do as I've got a good wheel setup), as the wheel feedback is so poor that it am most feels like when you were a kid in an arcade, and you'd pretend to be playing a driving game while it was in attract mode because you had no money left. Everybody did that right? :shifty:

I was 28 years old

I did that a lot  even at the local cinema when waiting for the film to start letting people in.

I remember wanting to play some arcade racer but having to politely wait for some kid to “finish their go” because I couldn’t be 100% sure they were just pissing about in attract mode.

Instead of adding more content maybe fix what is currently available first? Such as, oh I dunno, THE GAME ITSELF?!
