We've all been there, followed a TV series we've loved only to be let down by the ending. Maybe it was cancelled and left on a cliffhanger, maybe it was just poorly written, either way it was a let down. What are some of yours? Obviously it goes without saying but thread will contain spoilers

For me it has to be Quantum Leap. It was one of my favourite shows and while I understand they had to wrap things up but also potentially leave things open because they didn't know if they were being cancelled. But the tacked on text and the fact that Sam never made it home really felt flat for me and I still wish there had been a happier ending or a mini series or film that had wrapped it up and had Sam leap home

Enterprise - Perhaps not the strongest Trek series but I felt it was improving. My issue with this is that it takes away from the story of the Enterprise crew and makes it a holodeck program that Riker is using to work through his issues in an Episode of Next Gen. It felt a bit cheap that the main characters were essentially just a sidestory in a Riker episode that had aired years ago

Please do not post this in the "No Context" thread

Heroes. The last series had a seriously “omg what is that going to do to the world” feel and boom gooseberry fool canned.

Game of Thrones

Stellar first 4 seasons, good and bad points of 5 to halfway through 7 (Spoils of War episode was ace in my opinion) but it went downhill so quickly, briefly on a high with “A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms”, ending with Jenny of Oldstones

Episode 3 to the end was just me thinking “it can’t get any worse, oh wait it can”, I’ve honestly never seen such a huge show go to pot in such a short amount of time and it still irritates the hell out of me to this day.

Game of Thrones takes the prize - it went from the biggest show of all time to something that no-one cared about within a week of the last episode. Honestly incredible.

Lost

This one followed a similar trajectory to game of thrones. A genuinely thrilling premise with diminishing returns - its secrets revealed to us in such a granular way to make us wonder what everything meant, the smoke, the hole, the polar bear but in the end we found out it meant nothing and the writers were exposed. The twists were the intrigue but they went nowhere. I have never seen a worse final episode to a series.

My favourite character was Said as I always felt he looked like Brian from Family Guy

Falling Skies.

Ther show was pretty good until the end which was a strawberry floating disgrace of epic proportions.
It was an alien invasion show where the human race had been in an epic struggle to retake earth and they had the aliens down to a single city and it all looked set for a monstrous battle but they decided they'd just say "strawberry float it, that sounds expensive" and just have a sequence where they sneak through a tunnel (this is a city the aliens had used as a HQ for decades and the few human surviving military didn't know about) and just walk right up to the alien queen who'd then just die on the spot without a fight because yeah, that's a satisfying way to end a 5 year story!

They then had the audacity to have 45 strawberry floating minutes of a strawberry floating back slapping session about how great the series was.

They may as well just have filmed a dog doing a massive poo and shown that instead it would have at least been better in a what the strawberry float kind of way.

Just a solid gold strawberry floating shitfest.

Game of Thrones was always doomed. The differences between writing a book and writing a TV series (where actors contracts, fanbases and marketability are a factor) meant that when they overtook the books, every major character was invincible, and the show ended up being nothing but fan service match-ups and repeated trips to the well of This Season’s Big Budget Battle.

Prison Break had a promising first two seasons and the finale should have been when Bill Kim met his end but then it just kept going, and got utterly ludicrous. Luckily I didn’t suffer from the sunk cost fallacy and was able to drop it easy enough before it got truly Kingdom Hearts insane.

Unfortunately the same can’t be said of Dexter. Which I watched every minute of. Good grief.

I loved the ending of Quantum Leap! It's a really great final episode and the ending text is striking and iconic. While it's not a Hollywood perfect ending, I think it really suits Sam's character - the selfless decision to keep leaping because of how many people he can help. It's braver and better for it.

I'd partly agree with Heroes, but it went downhill from the end of season 1 (and 4 was truly dire)

It truly was amazing. No one talks about it anymore. The result of so many instances of dropping the ball and lazy story telling. It could have been an all time great.

This is a Game of Thrones thread. It's astonishing how it went from major pop-culture to forgotten about within weeks of the finale airing. Never seen anything like it.

Lost gets it ahead of Game of Thrones for me, though it had stopped making much sense for a while by the point it ended.

The silly neighbourhood vegetable.

Spending the money to fly the cast into a black hole to film large segments wasn't a great idea.

Nothing comes close to Game of Thrones. Lost isnt anywhere near as bad as people say. Not great ill admit but GoT is a different league of badness.

Honestly the bit where GoT went from piss poor to bloody woeful was Rhaegal getting no scoped off rocking boat behind a cliff while her was probably a mile or two away :fp:

Obviously it had plenty of terrible moments before this, but this one sticks in my mind the most

The u-turns by characters at the end was just horrible to watch.
I think the ending of Jamie Lannister was the worst for me as he'd had a decent story and had gone from being a total git to being a nice guy only to throw it all away again at the last second for a woman he knew was a total bitch who'd killed thousands.

Also making that twat Bran King was a slap in the face of everyone who'd actually done something in the war. Bran just sat about and spoke bollocks and didn't use his special powers in any meaningful or helpful ways.

The underlying plot behind GOT is fine for me, it was just told in a truly poor manner. If they had paced the season out to be 2 full sets of 10 episodes with all the usual character development and slow burn politicking, nobody would have really had so much of a problem with it. If it had explained why Euron Grayjoy wasn't just a magic plot fixing machine and gave him some sort of explanation for existing, then a lot of the problems surrounding him would have been solved. Dany committing war crimes with Dragons had been hinted at for seven seasons so I truly don't believe her ending was unexpected; but the speed of her descent into Targaryianism just made no sense whatsoever, because it happened so quickly and so rapidly that it felt like it was just written as the quickest ending rather than a sensible one.

Anyway, How I Met Your Mother, and it isn't even close.

The mass seething over that was great. Horrible episode.

No idea how I completely forgot about the How To Bait & Switch Your Mother ending.
