I can’t believe they’ve had 18 months to work on this and it’s still as buggy as it is, just had my second hard crash of the game where I had to quit out and reload it to play and lost an hours progress.

That patch can’t come soon enough.

EDIT:

Also questions about thoughts. When they occur to you and you go through all the inner monologue that end with a choice for you to Opt In or Out, if you’re under no obligation to actually put these thoughts in your thought cabinet, why would you ever Opt Out?

Because it's a role playing game and opting into that thought would go against the character you're playing. I'm not being sarcastic there. I had multiple thoughts I stopped as I wanted to play [The Cop] as a certain type of guy.

I get that and that’s how I’ve been doing it but as I see that these thoughts are basically like skill boosters waiting in a menu until you choose to activate them it doesn’t seem like it affects your character until you do so and fix it into a slot. It just seems like by Opting out your limiting your options, even if it’s something like becoming a druggie that you don’t want your character to be, what’s the harm in having it just sitting in your inventory ready to activate it if you do need it for a particular thing.

Never heard of this before but I like the art style. Taf endorsing it so heavily is a bit off putting though :slol:

I played it a while ago and just found it too depressing and fell off. Might try and go back and have another crack at it.

I don't know what to say to that really. More options, including the option to opt out, is good? I never had an issue with it.

I genuinely think it's one of the greatest games ever made, so I do tend to fanboy over it.

HOWEVER: it's also an extremely divisive game. Some people strawberry floating hate it.

I call those people "idiots".

Started the first hour and had to put it down, I didn't have the energy for something so focus intensive thanks to my long covid gonna have to be one I play earlier in the day.

What I played I liked though. Felt clunky but the writing is superb. Had me laughing throughout and I really like what it's doing with the inner monologue. Love the art style too.

The text size is too small for me though, even on max setting which is going to be frustrating.

So on day 2 and just made it to the Hardie Boyz confession I say ‘made it to’ rather than ‘got them to’ because it felt like a scripted event I had no part in and to which my dialogue options were largely irrelevant. And I guess that’s my biggest gripe of the game so far, I feel like any detective work I’m doing right now is to find the trigger event in the world that will enable me to push the case along the next dozen stages as opposed to doing anything to actually solve or progress the case myself. The character development stuff seems more tied to the flare in the conversations than their actual content. I guess I would describe it as having 10 guns in an FPS which all do the same damage but have different designs and actions, sure it’s pretty but it doesn’t really make much of difference in terms of how the game feels to play.

That all sounds overly negative and tbh I’m not sure how accurate it is at this stage but that’s kind of what it’s feeling like. Despite that though I am really enjoying it, I love the vibe of the game. The music is a big part of that but the visuals as well, it all has a lovely warm melancholic feel which is strangely cosy. The characters are all really great and I’m enjoying finding out more about them and the world (albeit in snippets as opposed to massive lore dumps). Even if it does feel like I’m just unravelling this big pre-determined story, that’s ok to, as just seeing where it goes is proving really enjoyable. The collecting, items money and clothes which open up a few new options is nice RPG fodder as well and each thing I collect feels special.

It really sucks you in each time you sit down to play and I really find myself having to pull away to stop just pouring in hours at a time. Looking forward to seeing how things progress.

Up to 6pm on Day 2

I’ve made a good deal more progress and it has felt a lot more under my control, like I’ve talked people round to my position and prompted certain events which feel like they could have gone a number of ways. I’m loving finding every nook and cranny and trying to collect everything I can. I’ve also picked up a lot of clothes and enjoy switching them around to help me pass certain checkpoints, feel like I’ve been doing quite well on rolls so far.

One thing I don’t like so much is how mainline everything is. The central story path branches in so many directions everything feels connected together, which is cool in a way but sometimes I think I’d just like some downtime and to run errands to get to know characters better.

Overall really loving it though.

This really feels like it was let out the door a month too early. There's so many weird bugs and glitches that are just scattered throughout your playtime it seems like it was never playtested.

The text size adjustor for example, just doesn't work.

You try to progress things with the car through the ice and you just repeat the same dialogue over and over again without being able to actually investigate it. The texture for the car doesn't load either. I think I've read a few people on Resetera encountering it too so hopefully they know and can fix it.

Started this last week, dont really know what to make of it, seems like I just have to choose dialogue options until it gives me an option with a high odd? I dont think it is best suited for couch play as well, all the reading from the couch makes me sleepy. (This was something I should have tought of before making the purchase tbf)

I managed to get past a low skill checkpoint but died just afterwards and can't seem to pass it again. It's making me really frustrated.

Trying to decide between picking this up now for PS4 or waiting for it to launch on Switch. I have a feeling the text heavy nature might lend itself to playing on a handheld.

I would be very concerned about performance on Switch based on how things are on PS5 right now. That said maybe they'll have it ticking over nicely by the time that gets released, mind you it's not like they've not had enough time between release in 2019 and now to have a functional console version without game breaking bugs.
