Fantastic news, will be buying physical on launch if the performance is all good now then (which it sounds like it is!)

Well, thankfully I did have enough motivation to get caught up again and I'm back on track, but not exactly as I did before (I didn't collect the item from the Cryptofaschist this time. Failed an 85% check and forgot to save beforehand to save scum it back to the original result, but I'll get it next time I see him). I have begun saving after every long conversation and loading it immediately to check it worked, and thankfully no glitches so far. I did catch myself forgetting to skip through the dialog I'd heard before to get there faster, the voice work is just so strawberry floating good.

Pleased you managed to go through the pain of catching back up with your lost progress. If ever a game was worth putting up with the frustration for it's this (on account of there being so little else to turn to that satisfies the same urge).

I'm trying to hold out for as long as possible before starting my second playthrough so all the voice work sounds new again (granted a lot of it will be new to me as i plan on playing it quite differently).

There's a studio adapting this into a TV show, apparently, and they've just signed a deal with Amazon that gives them first dibs on airing rights. :simper:

Amazon signs deal with studio producing Disco Elysium and Life is Strange shows

Deadline reports that Amazon has signed a first-look deal with dj2 Entertainment, the company that co-produced the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, to produce streaming adaptations of videogames for Prime TV.

This news comes less than a month after Hazelight studios revealed that it was collaborating with dj2 on a potential adaptation of It Takes Two.

Dj2's founder, Dmitri M. Johnson, said of the deal: "...it is truly an honor to have Prime Video as our platform partner. A partner who truly supports us, as well as our grand ambitions, for telling the best international gaming stories with no limitations in how high we may collectively aim.”

Dj2 is currently in the early stages of adapting Life is Strange and PC Gamer's 2019 Game of the Year, Disco Elysium. This new deal leaves Amazon with first dibs if these projects reach completion.

...

Can't wait to watch a drama about Union disputes while paying my monthly subscription to fund Jeremy Bidoof's Amazon owned Union Busters Incorporated.

Just FYI, I saw the other day that the update isn't on the cart as production had already started. My purchase will depend on the size of the patch required... which I can't find.

Ah, that's a shame. Probably not a reason to stop me getting it though.

Found out via Reddit that the update patch is 897MB which is small enough for me to put this back onto my 'to buy' list. :msgreen:

I've started playing this (on Switch).

It's actually kind of good huh? Who knew!

Too early for more detailed thoughts, but yeah I'm very positive on this right now (slightly awkward stick drift susceptibility aside, which is not the game's fault!).

This game is giving me very similar vibes to The City and the City by China Mieville (this is a very good thing).

It's not just being a police procedural murder investigation with a personally preoccupied protagonist and a straight partner, or even the fictionalised European-ish city setting. It's the city-as-a-character, its political manifestation and ideological struggle, the philosophical introspection with the city as a lens. The coexistence yet separation of wealth and neglect gives a similar texture, the bubbling under references to a glorious past and revolution, all experienced through an unfamiliar mentality.

Basically I'm saying you should read that book kaz

The other touchstone I have at the moment is The Silver Case. My radio call back to the precinct felt very much like a window into the Heinous Crimes Unit.

If we’re talking about things the game reminds you of, I’m once again reminded of how Contact Mike rose from the slums of Saint-Batiste to the top of the boxing world, overcoming adversity and serious brain trauma. Nothing is coming - nothing he wouldn’t knock out in three rounds. The real fight is for the right attitude.

(Btw I beat this since my last post and it is easily, effortlessly one of the greatest games ever)

The developers directly cite it as an inspiration for the game, among other works, here.

Thanks for the recommendation. I may very well pick that up. I have been meaning to get back in to some reading and this has got me motivated again. Your synopsis of what DE is, is, quite frankly, spot on.

This is cool - nice to know I'm not completely off base!

Still very early days in the game. For my first few levels I was immediately spending the skill point you gain, but with my last I've decided to hold it back. It seems like there is no immediate benefit to spending it if there isn't a skill check I immediately want to unlock to retry, so I'm better off keeping it in reserve? That way if I come to a white check I really want to pass, I can have a go with my current skills and then if I fail, immediately spend a skill point I have kept back to retry right then (rather than having to go off and earn another level - something I already had to do to try and inspect the body for a fourth time  ). That increases my chances as it gives me more potential rolls to play with I think.

You can access the skill menu from in dialogue to spend skill points, so even if I come up against a red check I could spend a skill point before trying it right? Or am I missing a downside where I should be spending skill points right away?

So far, I've only used my skill points to unlock thought cabinet slots. I much prefer that to the more conventional means of levelling up, as it feels more organic, with the things I do and choices I make in play unlocking thoughts, and as I internalise them, they have positive and negative impacts on various attributes of my character. Feels far more satisfying than the arbitrary sensation of having gained enough XP that I can now choose to boost a stat just because I know I've got a white check on it that I might want to retry, and not because it's something I've actually used.

Unfortunately, I think at half way through day 2, I've already unlocked all my thought cabinet slots, so I guess now I'll be needing to unlearn and shuffle thoughts about, or stick with what I've already internalised and go back to normal stat pumping.

That makes sense. I've internalised three thoughts so have filled out the base slots but the other two I have available I don't think I want to internalise, so I've not had any pressure to spend a point there yet.
