Very nice

One problem I have with how ‘smart’ or ‘wordy’ it is, is that so much of it feels completely pointless and churning through it is rather boring.

I can’t imagine I’m supposed to remember the background of all this racist gooseberry fool so in the end the pages and pages of dialogue just become verbal soup that goes in one whole just to shoot out the other, achieving nothing other than slowing down the actual game.

If you aren't enjoying the dialogue I can't see you coming out positive overall. It's the heart of the game, and what makes it so special. And saying it serves no purpose is like reading a book and getting angry at the characters having inner monologues. The text is the point of the thing.

Then again, it sounds like you're still super early on (the racist characters are, for some reason, heavily front-loaded) so maybe it'll grow on you.

I don’t really understand the section of the menu with all the thought stuff on it like Race Theory or what I’m supposed to do with it. Just menuing around is really strawberry floating fiddily.

Its a game where your decisions don't matter. Choose anything and have fun with it.

EDIT: I understand I'm going full on defence force here but this is the wrongest statement I think you could make about the game. Your choices absolutely matter. I'm on my second playthrough, about an hour in, and the vast majority of the dialogue I've seen has been completely different to my first time round due to the choices I made.

It's also a game where you're not meant to understand everything immediately. Everything does become clear over time though.

I assume Kezzer meant more in the sense that you can't really make a "wrong" choice, in terms of story progression, and that even the failed dice rolls will provide genuine entertainment.

Unless you tangle with the ceiling fan. Then it's game over.

Picking this up as soon as Patch 1.2 lands and feedback is generally positive about the improvements it makes. I'm on PS4 (Pro) and can live with the load times etc being a bit slow in a game like this, but i think the current bugs around speech not playing, prompts not activating etc might sour the experience for me. Apparently the patch "should" be up for the weekend, so thats not long to wait at all.

Third play through and the game is still getting me with its gut punches.

I will say, playing as a character with tons of health and exactly one pip of morale has lead to so. Many. Game overs. It's perhaps the one aspect of the game I think is poorly done: choosing an innocuous looking dialogue option can sometimes set you back half an hour (happened twice to me already: asking Slyvie out via Kim's radio and trying to shoot down the body, both of which were at the end of length interactions)

Got the tie down first time though, natch.

Not sure if serious, but yes. 100%. The whole point of the game is that it rarely plays out the same for any two players

We are saying the same thing but in different ways. There is no point in trying to meta the game - just play it, make any desicion you wan't and don't worry about it.

I dont think there is anyway this game can meet my expectations now. I remember seriously contemplating buying a gaming PC when this first came out. I just want to wait for the next patch and then i can get stuck in.
