What I found amazing is that there is no mechanism for them to deal with harassment like the allegations against Garnier. That's absolutely pathetic, there was nothing in the code of conduct to cover it so there is apparently nothing they can do.

Its an absolute joke, most major organisations have ethics policies and proper codes of conduct.

EDIT: I think it's a cultural thing in Westminster. A certain generation of MPs seem to have adopted the old boys club mentality.

I'm guessing all these sexual allegations floating around have turned party political and the Tories are blaming Labour for voting against stuff and Labour are blaming the Tories for voting against other stuff.

It's been like that on almost every single issue for about 100 years now. ;)

I still don't see what any of that has to do with me though.

I think it's about tax avoidance actually.

One of the (many) things that grinds my gears is MPs moaning about tax evasion given they're the only group of people who can actually do something about it.

It's ok, the Red Lady brings him back to life after (I have no idea if Kit Harrington plays Guy Fawkes in that new show).

Reading the PMQs today, I saw Theresa May falling back on this old canard, which I've seen bootlickers who defend the ultra rich use in discussions:

Corbyn wondered why, if the UK was leading the world on tax avoidance, the super-rich were now paying less tax than in 2009, depriving schools and hospitals of funding. That prompted May to point out that the top 1% of earners were responsible for 28% of the UK’s overall tax take.

This is because the top 1% have all the strawberry floating wealth! Why are we not concerned about the raging inequality that means that the other 99% don't have the income or wealth to pay more in taxes.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Is that stat even true? It sounds like a bullshit figure.

Either way, you are right. It’s not exactly a positive that a small group of people have all the wealth while other people are reliant on food banks.

I have nothing against people being rich either. I think it is great to have a free market economy that enables people to become wealthy. But those people that are benefitting from our society need to also contribute properly to helping those at the bottom. If they are paying their taxes properly, then fantastic and they should do whatever they like with their money. If they are Gary Barlow or Jimmy Carr then they need to have their loopholes closed (kennethwilliams).
