Corbyn wondered why, if the UK was leading the world on tax avoidance, the super-rich were now paying less tax than in 2009, depriving schools and hospitals of funding. That prompted May to point out that the top 1% of earners were responsible for 28% of the UK’s overall tax take.

This is because the top 1% have all the strawberry floating wealth! Why are we not concerned about the raging inequality that means that the other 99% don't have the income or wealth to pay more in taxes.

Is that stat even true? It sounds like a bullshit figure.

Either way, you are right. It’s not exactly a positive that a small group of people have all the wealth while other people are reliant on food banks.

I have nothing against people being rich either. I think it is great to have a free market economy that enables people to become wealthy. But those people that are benefitting from our society need to also contribute properly to helping those at the bottom. If they are paying their taxes properly, then fantastic and they should do whatever they like with their money. If they are Gary Barlow or Jimmy Carr then they need to have their loopholes closed (kennethwilliams).

It's 27% of income tax which amounts to 34% of all government revenue. It doesn't take into account VAT.

VAT of course being one of the most regressive taxes, and hits the poor harder.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

As defense secretary, not as an MP. Unfortunately.

Cue the cabinet ministers most likely to be exposed being moved out in a reshuffle before they have to resign in disgrace.

Surely that's because there are more stories to come about him. The story about him and Hartley-Brewer was embarrassing but not resign worthy.

Yeah, no way he's quit just on the basis of touching somebody's leg, as his statement suggests:

BBC News wrote:He said his behaviour in the past may have "fallen short" of the standards expected by the UK military and said it was right that Parliament was now taking this issue seriously.

I can't remember what it said about him. But if the papers have a story about him tomorrow then I guess we know that document has substance.

Being notorious among the whips as a drunk might have had something to do with it.

Definitely more to it than that. I think someone has got a sneak peak at one of tomorrow's headlines.

According to the leaked list he allegedly has "odd sexual ponchants [sic]" and has also allegedly been sexual with a fellow male MP.

Sex with males doesn’t count as odd but sex with MPs definitely does.

Michael Fallon fondled a journalist's knee, so he would fondle the UK's knee in his lust for power.

How is it actually 2017 and the Tories are on the brink because of sleaze?

Give them credit, they managed to get to the brink before any allegation of sleaze.
