Yup this will kill her off, she was gooseberry fool through the election but that could be down to arrogance and assuming she would win, this is a fear of "normal" people and a total inability to interact and show any form of empathy or care for anyone.

She is a monumental disaster.

If she goes do you think they will announce another election or just replace her with Boris or someone else?

May just keeps making the situation worse.

You have to assume they'd have a leadership contest before any thought of calling an election. I can see some deals being done behind the scenes so there is only a single 'unity' candidate. A drawn out process helps nobody.

Who needs terrorism...

These past few weeks have been such an epic shambles you wonder what else can go wrong.

I wouldn't be shocked to see mass rioting and looting from the usual rent-an-anarchistic-today hotline. May resigning, Brexit, Queen's Speech...there's any number of things to take attention away from the actual families, bereaved and housing situation.

That Clive Lewis thing seems remarkably stupid particularly if the situation is getting to tinderbox levels.

Surely they can't let people in the luxury properties without the permission of the owners though? That would be like breaking in and squatting.

Really? All I've seen are people asking for answers and to be rehomed in the same area.

The answers might have to wait, but being rehomed is hardly asking for the moon on a stick.

Oh it'd be a legal mess. Government would be sued left, right and centre.

I don't see any reason why there shouldn't be a heck of a lot more support for the victims than there is. All the relief efforts appear to be charity led, apparently there doesn't seem to be enough housing in London to house the displaced and that is complete bullshit.

Granted the numbers of victims can't be released yet but the government response thus far has been at arms length to say the least.

It would be great if things happen quicker but they don't and they never will. You just can't mass that kind of reaction that quickly. The resources just aren't there for an immediate response.

Our country would be strawberry floated if a major incident like a massive earthquake or hurricane took place.

The support for survivors has barely been there and hasn't been good enough where it has been.

I'm not sure about the last part, but I agree there is a high chance of civil unrest at the weekend.

I'm not one to usually defend May, but the fund and actually strawberry floating going to meet people today is good and something should have done before this. Better late than never, but it probably doesn't mitigate the damage at all in the eyes of the residents, and they have every right to feel like that.

I was surprised to hear about the legal aid help as well.

I doubt this housing crisis will be fixed in three weeks (which is what May stated).

There's CPO's but apparently using them in this basis is tricky and would require further legislation. It'd also be open to massively legal challenge (rich people can surprisingly afford good lawyers)z

The simplest solution would be to negioate private rental agreements. But that requires agreement (time) and could cause issues with benefit cap laws etc. Plus can you imagine headlines? 'Government pays offshore tax barons to hone fire survivors!!!'

'Why can't you promise 600+ people they can live where they want immediately? Who cares about the tiny matter of how?!?!?'

People like Lamley and Owen though. They'll shirk any notion of blame for (sorry can't think of better turns) fanning the flames if/when the unrest theyve been agitating spills over.
