There has been a few articles in the private eye about it recently.

The police really do have a lot of answer for about these 2 rape cases that have collapsed. The woman who wrongly accused Liam Allan should be named, shamed, and jailed. Talk about one of the biggest miscarriages of justice that would have been.

At least that Arthur Collins has been jailed for 20 years, with an additional 5 on license for his acid attack. To be honest I think such assaults should be a guaranteed life sentence.

It sounds like she probably needs some help. The police seem to have handled the case rather poorly from the sounds of things. They might have been withholding evidence as well, which doesn't look good.

I can’t really comment on what he truly feels, but if you make false rape accusations and it can be proved without a shadow of a doubt such as what happened with this case, then that person has to be jailed.

You basically have to change your name if you get a false accusation of that severity made against you.

I'd be fuming if someone slandered my name and almost landed me in prison and when it turns out to be BS, didn't face any consequences.

I agree 100% with this. This would be the worst situation to be in if you were actually innocent of any wrongdoing. It would ruin your life.

It’s not just this country but we really are gooseberry fool at dealing with accusations of rape/sexual abuse.

On the one hand you have the actual victims of abuse that are too scared to come forward in case they are not believed by the police/friends/the media and who are often not believed even when they do come forward.

Then you have those victims that are believed by the police/friends/the media but the case collapses for some reason and the perpetrator gets away with it.

Then you have cases like Savile where people don’t come forward/things get covered up and it only comes out decades later after the evil strawberry float has died. How many victims could have been saved if the accusations were public and action taken a decade or more before he died?

Then you have the men (usually men) who are falsely accused and have their lives utterly ruined as a result.

There’s no right solution to all this. Hide the identity of the accused and you risk nobody else coming forward with evidence/accusations. Don’t hide the identity and you risk an innocent person being smeared with the lies. Don’t prosecute an accuser who makes a false accusation and it looks like they have gotten away with lying. Prosecute anybody that claims a rape/sexual assault that doesn’t result in a conviction and you will put people off coming forward to report crimes and risk putting people in jail who were actually raped but who were unable to prove it or looked like they were lying.

It’s a mess.

It would be nice if people just stopped assaulting one another.

I do think it is totally wrong to release the identity of someone who has merely been accused of sexual assault. A lot of people have a 'no smoke without fire' point of view and it could genuinely ruin an innocent person's life.

That totally true, but it also does help catch rapists/assaulters when names are released. Savile, Cosby, Weinstein etc all got caught out and/or convicted due to the sheer number of people that came forward to say they had been assaulted.

It would be nice if people just stopped assaulting one another.

Or in cases in the Daily Mail, if you tell an outright lie designed to stir hatred on the front page, then you should have to issue a correction on a future front page.
