Today I learned I'm the only person in the UK without a dishwasher...

Handles up so you don't risk touching dirty cutlery while loading the thing. I don't have one but did back at home.

We also don't have a dishwasher. This makes me sad on a daily basis.

No, man. Me, you, Moggy, taf and puppetboy know the score.

In my case, it’s not cost. It’s ideology.

In what sense? Research shows that modern dishwashers are faster, more efficient and better for the environment than manual washing.

Do you have a washing machine for clothes?

Yes. Washing machines give better results than washing by hand.

I find that dishwashers are the same, but for dishes - hotter water (too hot for my hands, anyway), filtered so it doesn't get progressively more manky as you wash up more, etc.

But to be fair, I can't be arsed with washing up now I have a machine to do it for me. Previously I would say it gave me valuable 'me' time to reflect on the day and listen to music. As soon as I got the dishwasher, float that.

I don't have a dishwasher either. A) I'd need to completely change the plumbing in my kitchen and B) it'd be very uneconomical and probably quite inconvenient. It would take me a week to fill up the dishwasher to capacity, and I'd also run out of cutlery. And mugs. Or I wash the mugs, but then I'm just using even more water. Maybe. I dunno. And then there's the dishwasher tablets. I mean what do I buy?! OH, THE HUMANITY OF IT ALL.

Though to be fair my knowledge of dishwashers is zero. I think the last time I even looked at one was in an industrial kitchen 20 years ago.

To start with, you think "I must get the super turbo top brand 10-in-one hype wash foaming dish cubes"

Then, over time you get cheap and realise that the Wilko basics do just as good a job.
