They were made by different devs so they play differently and have different content. Like Chris said, the Aladdin SNES version was made by Capcom and is a really good 2D Platformer.

Mega Drive Lion King is genuinely one of the hardest games of all time.

I remember playing the Mega Drive version of Aladdin with my big sister in what must have been late '93 or early '94 when I lived in Qatar - in my simple young mind it was like I lived in the game. Such nostalgia  :(

Was also the first ever game that I learned a cheat for, with the level skipping "aa bb aa bb aa bb" code enabling me to get to the last level of the game, as opposed to barely making it past the opening sections without getting a game over and crying into my Fruit Loops. No idea how I knew about the cheat, must have been told about it at school or something.

And SNES Drunk rated Lion King as one of the hardest games on the SNES:

2m 53s

(Finicky platforming sections.)

Will be passing on these. Hard.

Legendary game designer Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil) actually got his start working on Capcom's Disney games-- SNES Aladdin included.

And when asked recently which version of Aladdin he thought was better, Mikami admitted it was the Genesis version, and for one simple reason: because Aladdin has a sword in that one. It may not be as true to the character as spring-boarding off of the tops of enemy heads and throwing apples at them, but turning Aladdin into a hack-n-slash action star is just cooler.

I don't think they're as far apart as some may think they are...

I'd actually like the Toy Story game released like this as I remember loving it when I rented it from Blockbuster, but this looks like a very fun release (I own the MD Lion King but not Aladdin). Any news on platforms/prices? I imagine it will be an absolute rip off but it'd be nice to know!

SNES Aladdin is tremendous.

I've only played a short amount of the Mega Drive version on emulator and don't have the same nostalgic attachment of having played it as a kid, so on the one hand it's unfair of me to say one is better than the other.

But on the other hand, the SNES version is definitely the greatest.

The previous release (Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King) is £12.99, on PSN, and was released on PC and all the consoles.

ESRB site has it down for all the platforms: https://www.esrb.org/ratings/37971/Disn ... ollection/ No mention of its price, though.
