There would seem to be plenty more content on the agenda for this year.

It is, Preezy; pretty much like Animal Crossing with a Disney twist. I would imagine that, if your daughter likes farming/life games, she'd very much enjoy it.

I'm sure she'll love it, Preezy. The chance to interact with plenty of Disney characters and shape a community for them? An absolute dream for any Disney fan.

I should probably get back to this. Haven't been on it in a while, so there's content I'm still needing to get to before this new lot arrives.

I haven't played this since the turn of the year... but it does look like the game has been well-supported. The above snap details the roadmap for the rest of 2023.

i've had a weird glitch. i finished a character's level 10 quest and then for some reason it started their level 3 quest again. it's also preventing me from unlocking someone else' level 7 quest. i've messaged the devs and looked about online but this doesn't seem to have happened to anyone else

Eurogamer wrote:Popular licensed life sim Disney Dreamlight Valley will no longer transition to a free-to-play model when it drops its early access moniker.

Developer Gameloft revealed today that its game would leave early access on 5th December but retain its early access price point (and indeed, it will also get pricier physical and special digital editions with extra currency and cosmetics bundled in).

On top of that, there's word of a major new expansion to the game, which will also come with a $30 price tag. Disney Dreamlight Valley: A Rift In Time will introduce new biomes and yet more characters to the base game...

Eurogamer wrote:As we look ahead to the official launch, with the learnings we've gained from Early Access, we've made the decision to remain a paid game for the foreseeable future," Gameloft wrote. "This means we will not make the transition to be a free-to-play game when we leave Early Access on 5th December.

"This choice ensures that Disney Dreamlight Valley will be able to continue delivering on a premium game experience for all players. It's important to us that we maintain our promise to keep delivering free content updates that add new characters, realms, clothing, furniture, and more surprises to your Valley."

I guess that the game has proved successful enough that it doesn't have to go free-to-play. I haven't played this for a wee while now but I enjoyed what I saw of it and it seems that there has been plenty of additional content added. I think I'll be returning to this soon.

From the consensus on the reddit I think it's been the other way around, they've struggled to monetise what's there and they're behind on releasing characters and buildings from the launch trailers.

I hope they add more challenge things because I've nearly done them all now. They've given me so much stardust and moonstone currency with nothing to spend it on

Maybe... I wonder, though, as Speedstorm (also by Disney/Gameloft) released afterwards and has just gone free-to-play, with a feel that it's trying to boost audience. I guess we can't tell for sure.

...it is quite a change in approach, though, as they're moving from "free-to-play in December" to releasing a new physical version (download version on Switch) at £45 and now bringing out a circa £28 expansion.

Oof, hope it stays free on Gamepass at least, my wife utterly loves this game.

You don't have to pay a penny more if you don't want to, shy guy - there is plenty of stuff (including lots of free updates) in the base game. Think of the upcoming stuff as an optional expansion for when you've completed everything else.

I am going to have to pay more if my favourite characters are exclusive to the expansion

Well... maybe? But I'm guessing that you started playing the game because there are characters/scenarios in it that attracted you, dude? There's plenty of stuff you can play through before you get to that point, though.

The vast majority of the characters did but now I’m worried what few upcoming characters I find dull are who will be given out for free
