BIG NEWS - THERE'S BEEN A FREE UPDATE
So I hadn't touched this game since September as I'd 100%-ed it. But jawa inspired me to have a little play. It seems they've quietly dropped a very cool free update!
There's a bunch of timed obstacles courses (which you can fast travel to if you've completed it) scattered throughout the map. So if you fancy picking it up again just download the update.
It was a nice surprise - I've played a couple and they're now the coolest part of the game.

That sounds cool. I did the first run solo, but played a little with my GF last night. She's not a gamer (only game we finished together was blanc) but she liked this and as I was planning on another run anyway so we're going to try and do a complete run together starting on holiday. It was fun solo but definitely adds a layer to the enjoyment doing it in multi-player, doesn't it.

Yeah, as someone that usually prefers straight platformers to metroidvanias - I'd just say don't intimidated by the map. It is a very straight-forward metro-vania - you're always pushed along in the right direction (e.g. new power-up meaning you can now access something right in front of you) - enjoy the journey - you'll always be going in the right direction. So much so again it works as a multi-player and is still relaxing (I think most metrovanias would be frustrating in a 2 player with all the doubling back on yourself you usually have to do - but not in this game)

I've only tried Mickey so far... but maybe I could try a different character. I will give it a go, Winckle! I think that you can select your character at the start of each session, regardless of your game save point.
Great stuff - I played as Mickey or Donald most of the time but cycled through all the character and yes you can select your character at the start of each play time.
Just one thing, whilst the character all have their own unique cool animations and individual power-ups - THEY ALL PLAY EXACTLY THE SAME. This is a good thing! Think they had multi-player in mind so one person wouldn't be speeding ahead. They are jump the same and run as quick as each other - so you don't need to worry about picking a character based on abilities

This game

It's from the same series. But most Illusion games play a little more like straight platformers. This is slightly more non-intimidating metroid-vania.
It's from the same series and they definitely share the same DNA- and if you loved Land (as I did) there's a very good chance you'll love Island. I went in expecting something more akin to a platformer in Land style - but ended up way happier with what we were given. So I would recommend

Land the Master system game is great though isn't it? One of the few retro games that hold up if you didn't play the first time.
I would like to play all the Illusion games I can get my hands on -
