Seen the two episodes of Clone Wars Season 7 (even though I'd watched the entire Bad Batch arc on the high seas) and the two of The Mandalorian. Nice quality, nice set up with the site, and easy enough to find what I want. The Mandalorian is also pretty great viewing. Slow burn series that manages its action and impactful scenes quite well. Can't really say whether it's top grade material, but it's certainly some great Star Wars viewing.

Thanks for the warning. I might have to screen it, then.

Seasons 1 and 2 are pretty fine. For a series about a war, there's obviously going to be deaths. For those two seasons, though, there's not really much focus or attention paid to them, and it's mosty the clones (in other words, the faceless) that are killed. Season 3 onward starts to gradually increase the stakes of death, until it gets to season 5 where there's a few deaths with focus that have an emotional effect for the viewer. Of all seasons, five is definitely the most brutal in terms of deaths, but it also seems to be the one that hides the actual point of death the most. Such as a lightsaber fight ending with one character being beheaded, but at the point the 'saber cuts through flesh the action is hidden by the camera panning behind those watching the fight.

I currently have netflix and amazon prime, the idea was to cancel prime once my daughter finishes being a student and move on to disney+ or blinkbox alongside netflix. Not sure now might just try trials of darn near everything while everything is going on.

There's a 4k category which is hidden currently and I believe nothing is playing on 4k even if your equipment supports due to Coronavirus.

Stuff is definitely streaming in Dolby Vision (my TV flashes a quick notification when the sourse is Dolby Vision). I watched Star Wars ep IV for a bit just to test and it looked astonishing. Can't confirm if it was 4k, but it looked pretty damn close.

Also, the sound mixing on stuff is incredible too. I feel like the surround is really strong.

Yeah I put on Empire Strikes Back last night to check quality and I was really impressed. Big step up for this household because I will only pay for the basic Netflix package.

SD is horrendous when you're used to better. My wife will stick the TV on SD channels when HD ones are available and it absolutely does my head in. I can tell instantly. I struggle to watch anything in SD now.

My wife does the same. Drives me crazy.

I’m not so bothered about 4K, but SD can strawberry float off.

Yep same here. I’m always switching to HD and my wife is sat there going what’s the difference :fp: I don’t get how people can’t see the difference. It’s not just a female thing though as my dad is also the same, I will constantly change it to HD when I’m at there’s as well.

I just wish I could replace the HD channels in the programme list, then no-one in our house would be any the wiser.

I should add, I'm not sure if Netflix SD is the same as broadcast SD telly resolution.
Netflix SD is brilliant, and I've genuinely not noticed a difference.

It's a really nice service and a cool collection of films but there isn't a great deal of things that I would actually sit down and watch.

Oh no, I know there's a difference and obviously HD would be my preference. I'm just a tight arse and won't pay the extra.

The quality of broadcast SD is horrendous these days, compression artefacts and gooseberry fool all over the place. Presumably as more of the signal has gone over to HD they've had to reduce the quality of SD channels?

Netflix SD quality is definitely better but HD is still worth the extra cash, agree that 4K is still broadly pointless for 90% of content and viewing setups.

SD content :dread:

May as well set your picture mode to stretch and zoom while you're at it.

Well, I feel a bit like James Acaster did on Would I Lie to you, when he came out and said he also dried himself with a hair dryer, before Fred Sirieix then said it was a Lie, making him look foolish.
