She doesn't sound like that at all IRL, it's as if they've tried to "Americanise" the accent for the film and I found it really dissonant.

Never knew Merida was played by the actor off of Train Spotting

Not that it bothers me personally, I guess they probably would try and Americanise or soften it [whilst at the same time exaggerating it to sound like international audiences expectation of what Scottish sounds like] for the International audience. They totally toned down Michaels Geordie accent in Alpha Papa :D

Ranking Pixar is surprisingly difficult! With the exception of the bottom few (cars :dread:) none of these are anything less than great movies.

Finding Nemo
The Incredibles
Toy Story 3
Ratatouille
Inside Out
Turning Red
Toy Story
Incredibles 2
Monsters Inc.
Toy Story 2
Soul
WALL-E
Toy Story 4
Luca
Up
Monsters University
Onward
Finding Dory
A Bug's Life
Cars
Brave
Cars 3
Cars 2

Not seen Coco or The Good Dinosaur yet.

well even if i did just start this to see if people would recommend the newest one, here's my list

1: Brave
2: Up
3: Coco
4: Wall-e
5: Toy Story 3
6: Incredibles 2
7: Incredibles
8: Monsters Inc
9: Toy Story 2
10: Luca
11: Toy Story
12: Inside Out
13: Onward
14: Ratatouille
15: Monsters University
16: A Bug’s Life
17: Soul
18: Finding Nemo
19: Toy Story 4
20: Finding Dory
21: The Good Dinosaur

Think I’ll offer some insight as well

I know Cora and I share some similar feelings towards the Scottish stereotype portrayal in the media, based on past conversations. And I know there is some of that in Brave but for some reason I’m just a lot more forgiving towards this film. Possibly cause it came out before I got sick of the stereotype or perhaps I feel the fact that they got a cast of almost entirely Scottish people it felt far more authentic than most of the other Hollywood films supposedly set there. Plus I find it hilarious.

I found that the Toy Story films got better as they went with the exception of 4. I dunno there was something off about it and it just didn’t feel as fun as the others

I’m probably the only person in the world who puts Incredibles 2 over 1 but I felt it had a better story and a better villain. Only downside was less Edna who by the by should totally get her own film

I really liked Luca though I can see why some people would think it’s not the best. I think a lot of that stems from the fact that the title character is one of the only characters ive ever genuinely identified with

The good dinosaur had some decent moments but overall I found it kind of dull

Never seen the cars trilogy, bar the last two minutes of the first

I didn't hate Brave, but I've only seen it once and never had any inclination to watch it again.

Her accent definitely falls foul of the "speak as slowly and clearly as you can" curse Scottish actors often face with bigger productions.

Just look at the lad in Force Awakens and his "Han Solo! You're a dead man" line. I really felt for that guy. Get his big chance as a featured character in a scene in what was arguably the biggest movie of the year and they make him sound like a wanker.

Indeed, though I do wonder if Americans can properly figure out any other accent sometimes. When linguistics professors from MIT can't figure out what we're saying, the rest of them don't have a chance. Jesus Christ. :fp:

I swear I've heard Scottish people talk like this in real life, is this forced?

While I can easily acknowledge that the modern films have surpassed it in many ways – not just animation and other technical achievements – the original Toy Story still holds up for me as one of the greatest films ever made. I struggle to understand the love for 2 and 3 above it.

I think it's Coco that really stands out as one of the more recent films.

I'd probably line up my god tier as something like:

Toy Story
Coco
Wall-E

However, as others have said, so many of them are brilliant.

Looking forward to seeing Turning Red, hopefully soon.

Toy Story 3 marks the end of the "golden era" in my opinion (it's also the point where they started going all in on sequels, make of that what you will).

Since then Coco and Inside Out are the only ones I would say can compete with the best. I did like Luca a lot mind you.

I watched Turning Red today. It's good, but it's not god tier.

Out of the recent Pixar movies, it's up there with Soul, Luca and Coco.

I'd say if there was ever a golden era then it ended with Cars as up until then their output was pretty much flawless. Since then they've still been excellent, just with the odd dip

Nah, Cars was a gooseberry fool movie, but they followed it with Ratatouille, Wall-E, Up and Toy Story 3. Those 4 are as good as anything else.

Then we got Cars 2..... :dread:

Yeah, but you can't just ignore one movie and claim that it was a "golden era"!

The run between Cars 1 and 2 was very good, although WALL-E and Up are two of that "second era" that never quite sing for me, both have absolutely incredible opening acts but falter as they go on.
