Disney+ (or Disney Plus) is an upcoming over-the-top subscription video on-demand service owned and operated by Walt Disney Direct-to-Consumer and International. It is set to launch in the United States on November 12, 2019. It will cost $6.99 a month in the United States and will be focused on film and television content from Walt Disney Studios and Walt Disney Television. Original films and television series based on new and existing properties are also planned, including content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, 20th Century Fox, and National Geographic.

Stick it at £5 a month, put all the Marvel and Star Wars movies on there before they go anywhere else and whack access to all the big hitters from their vast back catalogue on there and I'll probably bite.

It’ll probably be a great service, but I already have Netflix, Amazon and NowTV. Like strawberry float am I paying for another one and so will just pirate anything I want to see made by Disney.

Not too bothered about their new content, I didn't even watch the last Star Wars movie and have no interest in the hodgepodge Marvel Universe.

However, classic Simpsons (remastered?), Pixar and 21st Century Fox movies in 4K may be enough to convince me.

It's starting to feel like there are just too many TV / film streaming platforms. Competition is great but I doubt that they're all going to be successful in such a crowded marketplace. Sky, Virgin, Amazon, Netflix, BT, Hulu, Disney+, ESPN, Now, Xbox, Apple, BBC/ITV, Sling, Crunchyroll, PlayStation, HBO, TVision, Warner Bros and more. I wonder if the money is there to sustain this many providers?

Pretty decent price I think. As with all these streaming services, I'll just buy a month here and there when I feel there's enough content I want to watch.

I’ve finally just succumbed and subscribed to Netflix as there was quite a lot on there that I was wanting to watch. Other things I just use as and when, I’ve never subbed to Amazon video so once all of the Lord of The Rings program is releases I'll finally use my months free pass and cancel once I’ve watched it. I might subscribe to the Disney one, will wait for reviews of The Mandalorian before I decide one way or another, having every single Marvel film on there would be a nice incentive though.

There's a lot of mergers and acquisitions going on that might help with this.

Comcast (who own Universal, NBC, Dreamworks, SyFi etc...) recently took over Sky. so potentially you can see them bundling all of those properties into a single streaming service (possibly killing off NowTV in the process).

Viacom have acquired the likes of Nickelodeon, MTV and Channel 5 over the years is another one that could potentially bundle their properties in a service.

Fox also had a separate streaming service, now that content should be available on the Disney+ app.

Then there's the online models of the traditional cable/satellite subscriptions like YouTube TV and PlayStation Vue.

Eventually darwinism will take it's course and we'll see a handful of American giants controlling global TV and streaming... which should at least simplify things.

It’s crazy that there are so many and I expect a few of them to crash and burn in the near future. Disney and Amazon have deep pockets though so I don’t expect them to disappear even if they have few subscribers.

It’s not just the cost that puts me off subscribing to more than a few of them, it’s also bloody annoying having loads of apps and having to search through them to find the show/movie you want.

I'll probably subscribe to the US service via VPN/DNS when it launches.
Wouldn't be surprised if the UK version was missing a load of content by comparison because of licensing shenanigans.

The way I get around it is dipping in and out of each one.

So I've just subscribed to NowTV for Game of Thrones, I'll watch a few movies along the way and once I'm done I'll unsubscribe again. The only ones I've consistently subscribed to for the past few years are Netflix and Amazon.

Keeping kids happy is another thing though, traditionally you'd have Sky/Virgin with the kids pack so they can get Disney, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network etc in a single bundle. Not sure how that works out in this new streaming world.

They've stripped most Disney/Pixar/Fox content from Netflix now, but a lot of it is still available on NowTV, so god knows what arrangement they have with Sky/Comcast.

Presumably it will only be a short term problem, once any licenses expire then the content will all fall back under Disney control and everything will be available on Disney+.

I can't imagine they are going to be entering into any new licensing arrangements with other content providers once this system is live, except in cases where it is to a territory that they are not interested in launching their own service.

I am almost exactly the same. I constantly subscribe to Netflix, I have a student deal still running with Amazon (I will cancel it once the student deal is over!) and after using a 2 month NowTV trial I cancelled only to be offered 3 months at £3 a month. Seemed a good deal so I went with it.

Going to get this for all the Star Wars. There's so much Star Wars coming to the service.

Star Wars and Marvel have a huge dedicated fanbase, combine that with the fact that every kid will want this and I can't see why this can't be at least as successful as Netflix is.

I've never actually paid for any, as Netflix was previously through a housemate and is now through my girlfriend's parents, and otherwise we just watch freeview or iplayer/4od.

I am interested in seeing the Mandalorion, so potentially I will sub for a single month in order to marathon it. I've watched all the Netflix Marvel shows so no idea if anything is going to follow them in the future that will also interest me.

I’ll have to sub to Disney Plus, not sure what I’ll drop for it though, NowTV, Amazon or Netflix.
