Just a heads up that The Banshees of Inisherin has been added today, the latest film from Martin McDonagh (In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) which did very well with film critics and at festivals earlier this year. Looking forward to watching it later.

It's the snark and the over the top self awareness that becomes soul crushing. It's not Game of Thrones but it's also not Princess Bride.

I did very much appreciate the Die Hard reference in this weeks Willow though.

Back to square one with attempting to redeem my Samsung Disney+ code.

My subscription has now expired, so when I try to login I'm presented with the option to restart my subscription which then takes me to a screen where my only option is to put in details for a paid subscription.
If I try the URL https://www.disneyplus.com/en-gb/redeem then it just immediately takes me back to the restart my subscription page that then takes my to a paid subscription.

If I tried to use the redeem option before it expired, then it just told me that I couldn't redeem a code because I already had an active subscription.
So what the hell am I supposed to do?

Edit - Figured it out.
What I had to do was log out, then go to the redeem page, input my code and then enter my existing e-mail/password combo and it then reactivated my account using the 12 month code. Absolutely none of the help pages tell you this though, I just randomly tried it using an inPrivate tab and that process worked. What a strawberry floating obtuse system, they really want to make it as difficult as possible for people to redeem promo codes rather than paying the subscription.

I stopped paying for Netflix some time ago but kept Disney+ going. If they continue to cut content and/or raise the monthly cost, I think I'll be out.

I can understand content being cut for rights reasons, streaming platforms like Netflix have little choice if it's content they don't own. It's infuriating though that platforms would cut content that they own the rights to.

I have no desire to go back to hundreds of boxes of physical media (if they've even made it available physically), so I will just pirate what I want to watch.

After never having used it previously, I grew to love the convenience and catalogue of streaming during the pandemic. As costs increased I cut back and, in the past year, have kind of reverted to physical media. I'm finding that I'd rather pay out to get a smaller amount of content that I can keep and watch whenever I want, rather than relying on changing catalogues and increased subs prices. I think that streaming is probably better in many cases but, personally, I'm 50/50 about it right now.

Cutting content that they own is absolutely bonkers. Starting to get sick of these services now.

The market is over saturated now and streaming sites are going through a difficult balancing act between providing content people want, keeping prices acceptable and costs at a level that makes them profitable.

I think the market could do with losing 1 or 2 big guns.

When IU did it the quality was excellent. It played it in Dolby Vision too.

So looks like the reason Disney removed a bunch of their own stuff might have been so they could write off the production costs.

Basically a tax fiddle then.

Disney have a huge issue with Plus right now. Their former CEO Bob Chapek was effectively cooking the books to make Plus look like it was performing better than it was by shifting costs away from it. And really, its been bleeding money since day 1 and it hasn't turned a profit.

Now they're trying to make the numbers work and by removing content.....and increasing prices. A great mix that should help them keep subscribers.

The Full Monty - two episodes in and I am enjoying this show so far. It's well written, with great actors, and I have laughed out loud at several of the jokes. However it's also strawberry floating nonsense - it's like Last of the Summer Wine but they're angry about safeguarding

More tax japes from Disney:

Kotaku wrote:The “deleting shows and movies just to save some tax money” trend that is rippling through major streaming networks has seemingly hit a new, farcical low with the removal of the film Crater from Disney Plus. Crater was released on May 12, 2023.

The plan—and Disney hasn’t confirmed Crater was wiped for this, but why else would it be—works like this: media companies have learned that by removing TV shows and movies from their streaming platforms they can write down the value of their “content assets”, which in turn reduces their overall tax bill. It also reduces the licensing fees these companies are paying.

Well, I mean, you would expect the movie to stick around and be able to be enjoyed by people in the months and years to come. But now it’s just gone. There’s no way to legally view this film. It’s as though it never existed. One of the key selling points for streaming services was that they were going to eliminate piracy. Now here we are, just a few years later, and piracy is going to be the only way a ton of TV shows and movies are ever going to be saved.

I'm not saying that Disney's tax reduction games excited me, but... I just cancelled my Netflix sub and started up Disney+.

Just fancied a change, really. And it's three quid a month cheaper.

So if Disney+ has deleted a streaming only show (Willow series 1) and it's not available on DVD as Disney don't do dvds for streaming shows.... It's basically lost media.

Absolutely mad that someone's favourite TV show or movie can just vanish and there are no legal ways to own or watch it.

Wish my image sig would work
