Toy Story was their first feature but there's a handful of shorts from the previous 10 years. They definitely show a lot of growth in both the skill of the animators and the power of the tools over time!

There's quite a few shorts:

I'm genuinely amazed to see that all five of their pre-Toy Story shorts are on Disney Plus. It feels a bit harsh to say they haven't aged well though, when they're basically tech demos and pre-date any 3D movies by the best part of a decade.

This has just reminded me to check, and then get disappointed to discover, that they don't have The Emperor's New School or Kronk's New Groove on here. Worthless.

They have the latter, eye test lad.

Yep, 3 episodes in and I've thoroughly enjoyed so far.

Disney finally putting the franchise to good use.

It goes so well with the animation better than any other Disney song.

I think that’s down to it not sounding like it was written for the stage. All the other big hits have an air of Broadway about them, designed to show off either the choreography or solo/duet vocal talent, but Under the Sea is just a catchy island jam.

For me, it’s the sheer imagination of it all. A tiny crab that is absolutely strawberry floating buzzing about his life underwater just singing about how much he loves it.

What's first Star Wars Rebels or Clone Wars. And is the Clone Wars movie first?

The feature length Clone Wars movie is first, then the Clone Wars show, then Rebels.

I watched Rebels first, though :shifty: Working through the Clone Wars now.

They are literally tech demos, before making movies Pixar made animation software. Those shorts were made to promote the new features of the software.

EDIT:
I didn't realize it they still make renderman which is licensed to third parties.

It was more to Corazon de Leon saying they're basically tech demos. I'm sure early cgi doesn't look great.

It’s the same with painting.

Those early cave paintings are shite compared to the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper

The old Pixar shorts are worth watching to see how far they've come, really. Is Tin Toy the one that's got the proper creepy baby in?

The Pixar bluray boxset includes a bunch of early 2D animated shorts from the college days of John Lasseter and co, and they're an interesting watch to just see where it all started. Are those on Disney+ as well?
