I’d love to watch Prey via Disney + but cancelled the sub a while back. Netflix, Prime and Paramount + was costing enough. Anyone want to trade logins for Paramount :shifty:

The cost of standard Disney+ is rising from $7.99 to $10.99 in the USA from December. A $7.99 level will still be available, but only with adverts included.

I suspect that this will be replicated in other countries. I like Disney+ but I wouldn't want to pay £10.99 for it; nor switch to the advert level. The cost feels to have ramped up pretty quickly from £4.99 to £7.99 and now to £10.99.

Edit: With an increasing number of separate streaming platforms, higher subscription prices, the spread of programmes and now adverts, it does kinda feel that the services are losing some attraction?

Yeah I’m surprised they are doing this now as they have just taken over Netflix in the US as the most subscribed to streaming service. I would have thought that they would have wanted to consolidate that position.

There's currently an offer highlighted on Hot UK Deals, that admittedly does look rather dodgy, where you can apparently get Disney+ for just shy of £19 for the whole year: https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/1-year ... ng-3979298

...that deal does look extremely dodgy  . It seems that the company involved has somehow obtained Samsung promotional codes.

I've just ordered a new phone from Samsung that comes with 12 months of free Disney+.

What's stupid though is that whilst codes work for existing subscribers you can't redeem them on a currently active subscription, even when that subscription is paid for. When I got a 6 month code from Samsung previously the only way to redeem it was to cancel my paid subscription, wait until it expired then re-activate my subscription with the code.

The streaming landscape is becoming much more tenuous and fragmented, which is leading the consumer to have too much choice and not enough money, really. Off the top of my head in the UK there is:

Disney Plus
Paramount Plus
Netflix
Amazon Prime
NOW TV
Britbox
MUBI
BFI Film Library

And loads of other smaller ones. To have all of them would cost you well north of £100pcm.

It's crazy and some of the original benefits of streaming are now in danger of being lost i.e. cheaper pricing, range of content, no adverts.

Every media company thinks they're popular enough to go it alone and we'll probably have a period of frustration for consumers ahead of some of the companies folding or being taken over by the bigger competitors. In a few years it'll probably just be Amazon and Disney left, each charging £60 a month... exactly as Sky did in the dish market.

You don't need them all active at the same time do you? There are only so many hours in the day to watch stuff. A rotation system works well, hoping onto the platform that has new stuff you want to watch as it comes out.

If you can keep on top of it and don't mind cancelling and resubscribing, it's a lot cheaper than Sky or Virgin Media, but if you have a bigger family and you're all interested in different stuff (kids want Disney, you want Sky Sports, the wife wants Netflix etc.) it's just as expensive as it was with cable and satellite and much harder to keep track of.

I only ever subscribe to max 3 streaming services at once. Currently I've only got AppleTV+ (which has been free anyway) because there's been a lot of sport on terrestrial recently so I don't have the time for anything else.

I wonder how long it will be until one of the streaming platforms starts a 12 month contract? They'll offer it cheap to tempt people in and before we know it, we'll be back in the days of Sky subscriptions.

...exactly this! Disney+ does offers a 12-month sub which gives a slight saving over paying monthly; but I suspect that the next thing will be mobile phone-type tariffs of two or three years. And/or making it so that even if you pay monthly you have to give three months notice to cancel.

It's looking on the negative side, I know, but... it's coming!

I went in on one of those dodgy Gamivo deals when they were £25. A few people had issues but mine went through just fine. There's nowhere near enough on Disney+ for me to justify the normal price, but I'm happy with the discounted rate.

Don't forget Apple TV as well.

I have to admit I've landed in an incredibly lucky position when it comes to streaming content.

I get Sky, Paramount+ and Netflix (Basic tier) for free through work, but I pay £6/month to upgrade my Netflix to the 4K tier.
I currently get Disney+ for free thanks to a 6 month code from Samsung and will soon have a 12 month code when my new phone arrives at the end of August.
When Funimation moved to Crunchyroll I was grandfathered on the $49/year annual sub, so got a code for Free Crunchyroll Premium for the next 9 months.

The only service I pay full price for is Amazon Prime, though alongside the content I also get the delivery and Prime Gaming benefits.

I occasionally look at BritBox, if only because they've got exclusive rights to classic Doctor Who, but that alone isn't enough to justify the price.

Apple TV has nothing apart from Severance and Ted Lasso. That's an easy drop when my free offer runs out.
