But to be fair this is becoming a far more niche market compared to streaming.
Yes you can purchase the movie/TV show, but that is not comparing like for like though. In the old days you could purchase a DVD from a shop/online. But you could also rent it from Blockbusters/independent video shop.
You then also have the problem of only being able to play your purchase movie on one app. If I buy a movie on Amazon, I am restricted to Amazon Video if I want to watch it, it’s not like a DVD that would play in any DVD player, games console or computer. It is unlikely Amazon is going to go bust any time soon, but there will come a point where people lose access to purchased movies when a company goes tits up.
I sound like I am against digital media, I really am not. I love streaming and digital entertainment. And it’s not like these companies can’t share, music streaming seems to be at a point now where we are (mostly, there are exceptions) choosing the streaming company on price/service/quality and not picking the company based on content.
