Can't wait for this.

It's coming as a download also in Japan on day one. I doubt I shall download it over here as I love Square-Enix games boxart.

This game some sort of FF Tactics game or real time combat? I couldn't tell. I noticed a board.

Yeah, can someone explain the battle system? Is it like Crisis Core's? I've never been able to tell from the trailers for it.

From what I can tell the game is very much a fighting game set in a 3D arena.

From Wiki:

Dissidia: Final Fantasy's genre has been described as "dramatic progressive action" and its graphics will be in three dimensions. It will have wireless one-on-one gameplay and fights revolving around the use of individual special skills of characters to do damage to opponents. Players can also customize their characters with equipment.

Character movement is fully functional within the three-dimensional field map. Characters are able to perform special maneuvers using the environment, similar to the Reaction Command gameplay element of Kingdom Hearts II. Traps are scattered around each of the stages that decrease the Brave points of the character who activated them.

The overall objective of the game is to reduce the opponent’s HP to zero. This is done by attacking them using either of two attack types; the single-hit HP attack and combo-able assist attack; using the square or circle buttons on the PSP game controller respectively. Brave is the stat that determines each character's attack power. A character whose Brave points have been depleted can enter something called "Break mode", giving them a method of attack despite having no Brave points.

Another element known as EX Mode enables a character to inflict massive damage to an opponent. Each character has an EX gauge that increases by obtaining an item known as EX force that appears in each stage. A player enters the EX mode by pressing square and X on the gamepad when the EX gauge is filled. Performing a combo during EX mode allows a character to unleash an unavoidable special move called an "EX Burst", similar to the limit break in the main Final Fantasy series.

There are several tactics the player should be aware of in battle. Moving around and jumping is essential. Some characters even have triple jumps. The characters have a different set of attacking methods: HP attacks and Assist attacks without pressing a direction, HP attacks and Assist attacks while pressing a direction, HP attacks and Assist attacks in the air and so on. These attacks are significantly different from each other as some attacks are short range while some are long range, some are fast to initiate, while some are slow. The R button is guard and pressing X with R is a quick dodge. Certain characters can dual-wield by pressing the R button and the triangle at the same time.

Well, I wasn't sure before, but after that trailer...wow. I really want this. Complete fan-service game, though.

The PSP really is capable of incredible FMV. I hope the game comes with subtitles.

Tell me about it. I was going to spend double that, but saw sense and clicked "save for later" which means I'll be doing the same next week. :fp:

The battle system is really strange. I look forward to giving it a test drive as according to some of the Japanese scans you can play it classic FF style with menus and an ATB system of some kind or in a more real time way if you want.

It'll be pretty mental, but they need to confirm Balthier and fast.

Kain from FFIV, Faris from FFV and Celes from FFVI should definitely make appearances. Actually, pretty much anyone from FFVI would do - I can't believe that out of all of them they went for Terra.

Edit: Oh, I've just realised you're suggesting Balthier because there's no FFXII character present. From the looks of it, they're more likely to pick Vaan than anyone else. Despite the fact that he's really really gooseberry fool.

The story is based around FF1-10 and they've picked main characters/main baddies so they can easily write them into the plot/grab the attention of most fans. FFXII, XI, Tactics and, possibly, other characters from the first 10 are making up the secret, non-plot, characters so they're able to pick whoever they want from them as they don't need to pair them up with an evil equivalent.

Considering the first secret character announced was an NPC from FFXI, I don't see them picking Vann as the FFXII character.
I'm pretty sure that Balthier is the most popular FFXII character so that is why I expect him to be in there. The secret roster looks to be nothing more than a fan, and developer, popularity contest so I don't expect Vann unless someone in the development staff is a really, really big fan of his.

Or so I keep telling myself.

Terra/Tina is in there. I'm in.

If they managed to squeeze a few other 6 characters in there, so much the better.

Actually, that looks really gooseberry fool - an object lesson in how NOT to capture the dynamic fluidity of your CGI rendered movie.

Looks good. Camera angles are going to be a major pain though.
