Do normal Motorway driving rules go out of the window when entering the M25?

If you're referring to the continent, then i'm assuming you've not been to Paris.

The standard of driving there is scary (and that's not including the mopeds which zip in and out of the traffic at high speed), so much so that there's even a blue line around the arc de triomphe roundabout which indicates that if you go inside the line, you are not insured!

I've been to Paris but my comment was only about Motorway driving.

My experience of motorway driving in France was enough to put me off ever being in a car in that country again.

The 3 main problems with Motorway driving are:-

1. Gormless old strawberry floats
2. Gormless tarts
3. No motorway section on a driving test (other than a bit of theory).

Even the Italians drive on their motorways better than we do!

I still get PTSD from the Arc d'Triomphe roundabout...

Always get in front of lorries, no matter what lane they're in or how fast they're going.

Drive between 5 and 7 miles per hour over the speed limit when possible so as to not look suspicious.

If a shitty little 1l hatchback tries to move out to overtake, immediately speed up to put him in his place.

Ease off the accelerator (but don't brake) if being tailgated to spook them into backing off. If they have no opportunity to overtake, continue to let your speed drop off until almost stopped.

This is the gospel

I tend to stick to lane 3, as I'm usually going 90 and therefore technically overtaking strawberry floating everyone.

Currently in Istanbul.

After 20 years of driving in the Uk, 4 days of driving around Istanbul has reset my expectations somewhat and makes me yearn for the M25.

I honestly don't know how there are still enough people alive to cause a traffic jam.

It's strawberry floating insanity. I would take a video if I wasn't too busy just surviving.

Generally i will stay in the middle or right. Theres so many cameras now, especially on the m1, its crazy and need to make sure you stick to 70!

Indias far, far worse. The general mentality of indians in india is dog eat dog and absolutely no right of way. I was in india for a few weeks during christmas/ nye and stayed a few days with my mother in laws family in gujarat. They’re a bit more decent but all go through red lights. If you don’t you get horned!

If anything I'm more careful on the M25 than most others. This is mainly because of the "Smart Motorway" element meaning I'm absolutely terrified of getting speeding tickets, so when someone crawls up to my rear bumper and I'm doing 70 I'll usually just move over to the left whenever it's clear. I'm aware that the cameras probably aren't on when there's no speed limit displayed on the overheads, but I don't want to find out.

I took a ride on a Tuk Tuk in Chennai, to get to a curry house and back again.

I'm pretty sure the odds on me dying that night were significantly shorter than usual  it was unbelievable chaos.

I've driven across the continent a few times. Italy is by the worst. Especially around slip roads. Having done it a few times i know to expect the unexpected. My girlfriend doesn't look out of the windows when we are on Italian motorways. She did the first time and spent the whole trip going "AAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH! LOOK OUT FOR THE LORRY! MOTORBIKE! ARRRRGGGGGHHH! strawberry float! SPEED UP! YOU'RE GOING TOO FAST! gooseberry fool! WHERE DID THAT COME FROM! CAN WE STOP, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LET THIS STOP"

Now she just reads guide books and hums quietly to herself.

Thought the idea on the M25 you stayed under the sign to where you're going. That said I tend to stay in the fast lane going a decent pace.

I think French motorways are great, they are mostly empty due to the locals not using them.

My experience of them is putting the cruise control on and waking up now and again to pay the tolls.

In Europe I've driven in Iceland, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Poland, Luxembourg, Finland, Poland, Slovakia, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Austria and Montenegro.

The UK is the worst for not over taking and moving in on motorways from my experiences.

There tonnes of other dangerous norms in all the other countries but in terms of driving on a motorway, the UK residents are absolute professionals at strawberry floating up the workings of the overtaking system.

Going in a rickshaw is frightening and exciting. We were forced to take one from the golden temple back to the hotel and our lives were in his hands. Literally zooming through the backstreets. Makes you grateful of the order we have here.

You have never gone over the speed limit? Ever?

Nope.

You either don't drive or are telling porky pies.

I do drive, and I'm telling the truth. Where do I need to get to so quickly? If I want to get somewhere on time I set off earlier.

I'll be renting a car when I go in October, but now I'm starting to regret that decision! :slol:

I didn't find the Italian motorways too problematic when I've been... Inner cities though :dread:
