Plus if you have carpets everywhere, I always try to recommend installing flat ethernet cables that run underneath them, they're tough and designed to take the pressure. I've got one running down our hall which I installed myself years ago. Very easy to do, since it requires no drilling holes or anything, you just need to take your time lifting and resetting the carpet afterwards (and the door strips).

Once it's done though, you'll never have to do it again.

I’d be concerned flat cables wouldn’t have proper shielded twisted pairs.

But I’ve never used any so beats me.

Well, in terms of data transfer it's always been optimal for me. Never had any issues with that side of things, plus the ping is great. The cables I installed were 15 metres - I probably wouldn't want to go any longer than that though.

TSP ethernet cables are useless unless they're grounded on both ends, which is pretty rare. You only really find that in corporate grade routers etc. Besides, the protocol is robust enough for error connection that it makes almost no difference.

Crap cables do exist though. You'd have to spend very little money to get one or not check reviews at all (I guess on Amazon you might get a fake product in a marketplace/fulfilled by Amazon bin).

Cheers - I may come back around to it yet. My Smart TV has an incredibly annoying habit of dropping it's wifi connection every few days, I don't need blinding speeds to resolve this one, just a wired alternative (which worked for years without issue).

Edit - just realised I mentioned said wifi issue in my original post. To confirm - it remains an issue.

Consider powerline adapters for more stable connectivity. Look for ones with passthrough sockets and ensure they're on the same electrical circuit for better performance. While they may not reach the full 1Gb speed, they often outperform WiFi in certain situations. Check reviews for specific models for reliable results.
