There's a joke about correct technique on the g string here, but I keep coming in too early.

I can't even seem to figure out how to PM ahah, I appear to be in childproof mode. Could someone pop a message to Karl? If it's a minimum post number or whatever there's no worries I just wanna share my shite music!

Hi Ming, welcome to the topic! Looking forward to hearing your stuff. Yeah I'd imagine you're restricted either by time or by current post count, it's probably to stop bots joining and spamming porn (a feature we should drop imo :x ).

Who doesn't like porn?! ;)

Is there someone I can message maybe?

Hi I've moved you out of the newly registered users group which will fix it.

Green Gecko you're a star!

So I suppose I'll start with this weird little track I chucked together at the begining of lockdown when I started my red wine phase! The lyrics were written by a mates 3 year old boy so don't read too deeply into them ;) Let me know what you think.

Thanks for sharing Ming :)

I'll be honest, it's not the kind of thing I listen to (i have the most bland 90s indie / 70s rock tastes) but I did like it. It's got a really spaced out sound (as in there's loads of air for the sound to breathe). It was also stuck in my head for about an hour until I got another indie fix :datass:

How did you find this topic by the way? I see you don't have many posts so did you join grcade just for the music? Either way, please keep posting your stuff.

What do you use to record? Instruments etc.

Glad you like it!

To be honest I joined because I was feeling nostalgic for old forum days. I found this thread 'cause I thought music threads would be a home!

I use a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, Ableton and a 5 string Harley Benton bass mostly.
(https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hbz2005.htm plays nicely, 'cause I'm not a bassist by trade I've never put big bucks into one but this has served me well for a good 7 years now!) I have a couple of cheap guitars too and an SM58 for vocals but bar that it's all plug-ins!

To be honest I make hip-hop mostly, I have a couple of different things going atm but I'll link a couple tracks done by me and the old man now. (He's been making hiphop since the early 2000s.)

I haven't played guitar since before Finn was born.. maybe 8-9 years or so?

He's decided he'd like to get into it, so I dug one of my old guitars out of the loft for him.
I made this out of spare parts, painted it and then made it look filthy. Always had a soft spot for this guitar

Who knows, I might end up playing again now..

You should, I always like to hear different takes on a genre (unless it's jazz of course, which is gooseberry fool no matter what).

What about jazz rock? A lot of Frank Zappa for example can be characterised as such.

Jazz essentially just means, elborating on a motif through improvisation, generally playing instruments in a manner that you might not know how to play the instrument "normally".

And then all sorts of other genres happen, due to jazz.

I'll be honest, I'm a massive jazz AND Zappa fan. I think between them Steve Coleman and Frank Zappa are my 2 most listened to artists.
