I love feeding the birds and watching them in the garden.
We buy extra loaves of bread just for them and have a birdbath and other places with clean water and it's just nice to see the garden being visited by the feathery friends.
We have plenty of trees and greenery in our area of town so there are plenty of places for them to nest.

Do you enjoy feeding them?

My garden is rammed with birds at the moment. And, unfortunately, a pigion that has decided to nest in the fascia below the guttering.

I have a bird bath, but aside from that I don't go out of my way to feed them. They usually help themselves to the cherry tree. I used to buy bird seed but that stuff is actually quite expensive (especially from the RSPB). And once you've started, you've then got to keep doing it because the birds come back expecting it, and if it's not there they've wasted a trip.

Always put bread out for them in the morning and keep the bird bath topped up with water

Birds

We've got a gooseberry fool little bird house I salvaged when we moved in (put some decking paint on it to make it semi presentable), so that gets some bread and seeds on it. We also have a thing with seed hangers and a water tray on, but it's got tatty now so I took it down at the weekend to paint again.

Would love to feed birds if I had a garden :(

Seeded wholegrain bread is the healthiest kind for them. You can mix in a tiny bit of leftovers (cheese, fat, fruit) too which helps them get the nutrients they need.

Throw my mouldy slices into the garden. I’m assuming it’s them that’s eating it.

This is so strawberry floating dumb I can't stop laughing.

We have a couple of feeders usually filled with seed and suet, along with a couple of coconut fat ball things from a tree.

Pretty sure there's a robin nesting in one of our hedges.

I can see a tree from the window next to my desk at home, so I bought a feeder with fat balls in, but it still hasn't brought all the birds to the yard :(

We usually put our old crusts out if we have them, there are a family of jays in the chimney opposite who like popping down for them. I do love birds.

Bread does not contain the necessary protein and fat birds need from their diet, and so it can act as an empty filler. Although bread isn't harmful to birds, try not to offer it in large quantities, since its nutritional value is relatively low. A bird that is on a diet of predominantly, or only bread, can suffer from serious vitamin deficiencies, or starve.

Dry chunks of bread will choke baby birds, and a chick on a diet of bread may not develop into a healthy fledgling.

Feed them something that is wholly unbready and not even slightly curranty!

All the time!

Love seeing the garden filled with birds but it can get quite pricey buying seeds every other week for the bird feeders.

Unfortunately they’ve stopped coming to the feeders at the front end of the garden because of the cats, but we’ve put a couple up in one of the trees at the back for them and there’s always loads out there.

We’ve got three bird baths too and they’re always filthy after a couple of days. The birds round here are pure filth.

No, there's plenty of food available to them for most of the year in our garden (various fruiting shrubs, bushes and a massive cherry tree they strip bare the second the cherries are ripe).

There's a small industrial unit nearby which used to be infested with rats (our old cat brought a dead one back almost daily at one point) so we've never left food out for the birds just incase it attracted rats instead.

The current cat loves to sit on the windowsill watching the birds but the daft bugger is scared of them when he's outside and they land near him
