Do you carry like a traditional family name or anything like that? Not surname.

My middle names are my dads name and the family name of all the men that came before me, and Ill probably carry on that tradition on if I ever knock up some poor woman.

I have the family middle name "Ferguson" all first born males get it, and it ends with me.

Kind of. Noone in my family is officially named it or anything but its used to refer to all the kids of my grandfather. Theres a different name on each side actually so I have a different family name depending on who you talk to. Its kinda cool sometimes to be able to say my Grandads name and people know who it is and where Im from.

It comes from my dads side of the family and I don't like them and especially him so that's a big part of it, and I hate the name.

Fair enough. My family name is true of my mothers and fathers side, pretty weirdly, so Im (completely irrationally) quite proud of it. I also have my dads name and he had his dads name and so on, true for all the first born men on his side.

We used to have a family picture of me as a baby, my dad, his dad, and his dad that I always really liked. First born males going back four generations and we all had the names in common.

Vickers.

It was my Grampa's middle name, and he went by the name 'Vic'. It is my aunt's middle name (!), and she goes by the name Vicky.

It skipped my generation.

No. I have a surname, what's the point in anything more?

My mum hated her middle name and so neither myself or my brother have any middle name, let alone a "family" one.

My brother hates his middle names, not family names, just unusual ones. One of them he hates so much he refuses to acknowledge it on any forms etc.

My Mum always planned to give her second child if it was a boy my dads name as a middle name, but as after me she couldn't have anymore kids due to becoming ill to the point having another chiild would kill her I didnt end up having a "family name".

I think if I ever have a kid and it's a boy I'd like to give him the middle name John after my Grandad who was one of the nicest people I've ever met in my entire life, and was someone I respected so much.

I have my dads name as my middle name, he has my grandads as his middle name and so on.

It goes back for at least 5 generations but I most likely won't father any kids so its up to my brother to carry on the tradition if/when he and his gf decide to have any.

I don't but my brother's middle name is one of my Grandad's names. My wife's middle name is her grandma's name. I prefer to be unique.

My middle name was after my great granddad, who died a few weeks before I was born. His name was Percival Creswell James Pratley.

I got James.

I was named after my Dad who was named after his Dad.

However, I’ve always gone by my second name. Which can cause a lot of confusion with forms etc.

Nope, not really, although I have both maternal and paternal uncle(s) with the same name as me. Also, my middle name is my grandfather's first name. "John" is not exactly the most original middle name in the world though.

I have decided that if I ever have children they are getting original names, or new versions of existing ones as I kind of like the idea of someone being the only one of their name in the world. Never understood why people constantly recycle the same names.

I have the same first, middle and last name as my dad, his dad, his dad and his dad.

Thankfully I had daughters!

Because parents who make up names are often crazy people.
