It really depends on the car I'm driving.

My Yaris was a pile of shit- constantly grinding into 2nd gear, reverse gear always got stuck, the biting point on the clutch was a hair's breadth, and the steering column didn't extend so I had to sit bolt upright in my seat with the wheel at arm's length. strawberry floating horrible to drive.

My new Fiesta, on the other hand, is an absolute joy to drive. It handles far better than any of my previous cars, and has all the mod-cons the othera sorely lacked. Well, minus parking sensors, but that's easily fixed.

The Mustang I rented last year, though. That right there is as close to sex as you can get without taking your clothes off.

Yes and no.

Yes:
Hiring a jeep, SUV and mustang for various road trips in America.
Hiring a scooter in different places round Asia.

No:
Mind numbing commute to work in my Corsa.

For the most part, British roads are gooseberry fool and unenjoyable.

For the most part yes, the only negative for me is having the share the road with a seemingly increasing minority of knuckledraggers that are too thick and too dangerous to be on the road.

I'm not at all interested in cars per se, but I do like the fact I can get some alone time in the car, that I can listen to music or podcasts, sometimes I go out for a drive at night when the roads are virtually empty because I find it quite therapeutic.

At least you've tried it and can say that from a point of experience. Your work colleague should recognise that...

Driving itself is fine, I like it. Driving on UK roads is the problem. I can't wait not to have to do it.

Yeah, my Fiesta is a lovely little car, handles wonderfully for such a small, cheap car.

Riding a motorbike is much more fun but I still enjoy driving cars, even in traffic. I wouldn't buy an automatic, or use aids like parking sensors or cruise control. The more control you have over the car, the better it is.

I have a basically all manual everything car and it’s wonderful but my next one will be a dual clutch auto thing because I’m getting old and traffic sucks

I've always loved cars and couldn't wait to learn. However, in the meantime I also discovered booze, girls, clubbing etc. I didn't actually learn to drive until my first son was due to be born and I had to accept I was a proper grown up. So having learned to drive in my mid thirties, did it live up to my early teenage dreams? Yeah!

My favourite holidays are road trips. Nothing beats driving 2500 miles across the continent in a fast german car listening to kraut rock.

I love driving, although not so much these days as I live in Toronto, all the roads are straight and wide and boring, speed limits are too low and traffic for the most part is horrendous.

I love driving in new places though, I pretty much always rent a car at some point when traveling to a different country. The only place I was too scared to do it was India :dread:

I hate all aids apart from cruise control, it's brilliant in mainland Europe. It might not be as helpful on the M25...

Driving around the Falkland Islands was fun, the roads are for the most part dirt tracks, and you can pick up some good speed on the right bits.

Closest I've ever felt to driving in a true wilderness. There was a road around East Falkland, nicely coined the M25 and I did the drive about 3 times as I just loved it. Drive for 3 or 4 hours and only encounter four or 5 other cars.

Lethal though if you get it wrong, the place has a lot of road accidents (per percentage of population) and is unforgiving, miss a bend and you're off the side of the road into a moor. And suicidal sheep try to jump in front of the car.

Still though, the military were restricted to 40mph, so in the car we had with no restrictions, it was bloody good fun if tackled in a sensible manner.

Absolutely this. I've been driving since 1990 and the amount of traffic and with that the exponential increase of inconsiderate arseholes on the road makes for a very unpleasant experience most of the time.

I'm a field engineer so I clock up between 15-20k a year. The wife says I should just change to an office based role but I don't like being stuck in one place all the time. Rock and a hard place etc.

You've just got to watch the film (the 1994 David Cronenberg one), and just get into that mind set then you'll enjoy it.

I don't like driving but I don't love it. Also I just got quite a nice car and it's a lot less fun than my old bashed up VW Lupo. Although bits don't fall off on the M1 so it's swings and roundabouts really.
