I thought this thread was about the 80's comedy starring John Candy, how wrong could I have been?

Having spent a year as a conscript, I've had my fair share of camping.

Me, my father and my older brother have gone camping a couple of times, but it's been a few years since last time. My friends and I also went camping to get drunk before we were old enough to go out proper.


We go fishing a lot too, together with my younger brother, but that's in the ocean near our summer house, not in lakes and rivers and such.

Completely different situation. It's what they do. Going out in a deer stalker and rifle over here seems pointless. That's part of the culture over there, not here.

I do now. My dad took me to lots of awesome places when I was younger and I never appreciated it.

I would rather eat some meat from an animal that has had a good life and been killed with a gunshot than one that has spent much of its life moved from place to place in a lorry or lived in an overcrowded shed. There is a difference between hunting for sport and hunting for food.

I love it. In a sense. When things are tough I love driving to this one spot on the Northern Beaches which almost juts out into the sea like a mini-peninsula where you can see right along the coast about 20km each direction - beautiful. Then again I like being comfortable, but love a bit of camping.

Last year I was at a folk festival near Brisbane (possibly the best place anywhere in the world for one solid week) and it rained 24/7 - my feet were permanently caked with mud but it was the best week of my life. So it all depends. I certainly have an appreciation for natural beauty and can't wait to go traveling next year.

What a load of old balls. I live in what's got to be close to the most rural part of the UK and most people round here hate it too. Sport hunting is a ridiculous affair. Cruel and pointless.

In regards to the great outdoors; as stated above I live in the middle of nowhere, and there's nothing better than a long walk with no traffic, main roads, or people. Really calming. I love camping and surfing to.

Yep. Love it. I love taking a stroll through wooded areas/ forests etc. The back of my g/f's mums house over looks a massive wood, went strolling through it a few weeks ago.

And camping is brilliant, nothing like roughing now and again! Even if it rains, doesn't really worry me.

Oh and hunting? The only people who hunt foxes / deers etc are banana splits.

I can see the attraction and necessity of hunting, what's more venison/wild boar/cat etc. is yummy. Hunting with dogs on the other hand seems to be a very inefficient method of pest control and I can't shake the feeling that it engenders a certain lack of respect for life. The horse riding bit looks like good fun though; I like a good gallop.

I grew up in a village with a wood behind the house. Was amazing as a kid to be able to play down there, climbing trees. I doubt the kids are allowed anymore (and to be fair it did almost kill me once when I fell out of a tree!).

Living in the middle of Bristol has its advantages but I do miss fresh air and greenery sometimes!

Hunting is just one of those things that I hate with a passion. What with living in the middle of fecking nowhere, we used to get hunts up here all the time - 8am on a Sunday morning, hunting horns blaring and dogs barking with a load of pissed up snobs with guns trailing around.

My three nearest neighbours are farmers, and they're all against sport hunting. The only people that have time for it are the "farmers" who have strawberry floating mansions and employ hands to do all the actual work while they attend uppity pseudo-racist parties with similar twats. Shooting vermin I have no qualm with at all; for livestock-protecting purposes it's part of the job. But people that actively chase an animal around for miles on horseback for no reason other than personal pleasure need a good kicking.
