Y'all are strawberry floated up. ;)

Whilst I'm quite pleased to say that I've never experienced anything like this this topic has made me realise that I can't actually recall the last time I had a real vivid dream, or even remember having a dream at all. :(

I'm either not dreaming these days or just forgetting about it as soon as I wake up.

Maybe the reason you can't remember dreams is becuase you're already in one and just haven't woken up yet.

This would explain just how strawberry floated up everything is right now I guess, but at the same time if this is my dream then it's a bit boring!

I've not seen any people in my room for a few days, but have been having the waking up in your dream thing happen quite a lot.

I had a dream about GRcade last night. We were all getting filthy rich by selling Animal Crossing bells for real money, and someone (I think it was Tsunade?) was getting really mad about it. One of those ones where you wake up and just think, "...Huh?!".

More on-topic, I get sleep paralysis now and then (maybe a few times a year), but thankfully the worst hallucination I've had while paralysed has been giant spiders. I don't think I could cope with creepy ghost people.

It's not even like they're ghostly or spooky in any way , they're just normal people hanging about in the room, which makes it more believable and frightening in the moment. Some random guy walking out on the landing can easily be a real burglar, whereas if I was seeing some headless horseman or something like that, at least I'd be able to know it wasn't real straight away.

Sounds goddamn terrifying ngl

I sleep walked (slept walked?) a few times when I was little and I've managed to lucid dream in the past after spending a few days working on it, but never had sleep paralysis or night terrors. Pretty thankful for that!

I have sex dreams a lot. They're usually pretty good!

Just to clarify, they're not dreams about sex with dead people.

I've mentioned this before in a similar thread (may have been about tinnitus?): I went through a period of what I think was sleep paralysis: essentially what happened was I'd hear a very loud and unbearable screeching sound in both ears. A sound which I imagined was crossing into my brain and was terrified of what would happen when the sound waves (?) "met" in my brain. This never lasted more than a few moments (a couple of times a night tops, for a few months many years ago) but I couldn't move while this was going on (always happened when I was sleeping facing down), until I felt the sounds meet and then I curled into a fetal position and was grateful for it being over and having survived. I think I got off lightly compared to people who suffer from night terrors.

Yeah it can be that and that's usually adrenaline release for me at the most intense part of a proper nightmare that leads to most people waking up but sometimes you just don't.

When I was a kid I would sleep walk, once I was sonic and spin dashed off the end of a cliff and woke up downstairs on the sofa so I had apparently run down the stairs in my sleep.

I had a very vivid dream about GRCade last night. Roonmastor was running a forum game where you paid him money and he'd photoshop the Queen wearing different outfits or something. Anyway I payed to play a few times because I was like "oh it's for charity at least" but then it turns out it wasn't for charity and he was just pocketing the money, but he'd never explicitly said it was for charity so I was like "oh well fair enough".

Fair play to Roonmastor. I am impressed by his entrepreneurial genius.

Sometimes it will be an old lady standing silently in the corner, sometimes a middle aged man who is walking around, other times a younger scary looking person who will put their hands either side of me over the bed (context) and lean right up over my face :dread: There was one last year where I saw a lady leaning against the chest of drawers by my side of the bed, so I lashed out to kick at her and booted the drawers back in to the wall, putting a hole in it :fp:

Latest one was two nights ago where I saw someone out on the landing crawling along the floor. I shouted "ARRRGGGGGH strawberry floating HELL strawberry float OFF" and my poor wife had to calm me down having just been woken by me shouting in her ear.

I know it's me being half asleep, or totally asleep but concious, but it's still horrible.

Woah, that's some heavy gooseberry fool. I've had some really bad nightmares and they felt real but they were confined to the dreams space, although the memory of a few would linger with me for days and sometimes I might remember a dream or bad dream that I'd forgotten from years earlier. But what you're saying is you are in some sort of awaken state and you seen these people as real people? That's sounds actually horrifying. How do you know they're not burglars? Also, I don't mean this in an unkind way at all but as they are so vivid have you been to the doctors about this in case there's a medical or psychological cause behind it all?

Mine were most likely caused by sleep apnea as the frequency of the episodes dropped drastically once I started using a CPAP machine overnight, It didn't stop entirely as my disability affects all of my muscles which means my breathing can still occasionally become erratic as I sleep but most nights the machine does its job.

Sleep Apnea can be quite serious as it puts a lot of strain on the heart so I'd advise getting it checked out if you frequently have headaches in the morning or feel unusually sleepy during the day.

The general gist, I believe, is that when you are in REM sleep (the state you dream in), your body releases chemicals that "paralyse" you so that you don't thrash about, trying to act out your dreams as you're having them. These chemicals usually wear off before you wake up.

The sleep paralysis or night terrors seem to happen when there's a disturbance or misalignment in the sleeping pattern and you wake up before the chemicals wear off. So you're awake and cognizant but you can't move - usually, but not always, with some kind of sense of dread. Because of this weird state, your brain is still very active in the "creative" way of the dream state which means you can hallucinate. The hallucinations are often based on cultural fears/things you've learned to be scared of or your own anxieties.

edit - This is for general paralysis/night terrors. Not sure if sleep apnea is related, think it's quite different with how it works. Didn't want to conflate the two with posting directly after Ironhide.

Sleep apnea disrupts the normal sleeping pattern as you get woken up by the sudden adrenaline release caused by temporarily stopping breathing. In my experience this usually results in waking up in a confused or dream-like state where hallucinations can occur.

Has a really weird vivid dream last night. Thought what the hell I'll post it here. Maybe I should get a dream diary.

It was all very family orientated, for the first half of the dream it was christmas, and I can't remember much but i was back in my family home, and my mum was trying to cook for everyone, as far as I am aware we were all adults, but the scene was definitely one from childhood. My dad was in the living room watching telly and couldn't be bothered to decorate the Christmas tree, my mum came in and shouted at him, complaining that she was having to do eveyrthing and my dad couldn't even put a few borbles on the tree  This is definitely the kind of thing that used to happen with my parents (who are now divorced) through childhood.

Skip forward 5 minutes, or 20 years, and I'm at my brothers wedding(he's not married IRL) I'm still somewhat adolescent (or desperately alone) as everyone else is there as couples, and I'm there with my mum. My mum keeps making me do gooseberry fool like get her drinks and i'm just feeling useless.

Next thing I know I'm 'downstairs' making a cup of tea and my brother comes down and starts freaking out about getting cold feet and how this is not how he imagined his wedding day. I proceed to reassure him and tell him 'i didnt imagine it like this either, but all that matters is that you love 'girl' and you're getting married today, isn't that all that you wanted?' this seems to calm him down and he goes off and gets married.
Next thing I know I'm still at the wedding but it's an after party, I'm surrounded by my mates, some current, one of them who is now dead. My estranged auntie then appears and starts asking me about my friends, the dead friend is actually also a second cousin and distant relative of my auntie's, I start telling her 'look it's mark! He's been dead for years, but he's come to brothers' wedding today! My auntie then preceeds to start to get all emotional about the fact she was given up for adoption as a little girl as my grandma had her pre-marriage.(ignoring anything about the dead friend).

It was all very strange i tell you that, not had a vivid dream like that in a while.
Hint's at a lot of things about my life in one strange strange dream.
