I haven't had a cigarette since Feb 2004.

And giving up remains the hardest thing I have ever done. Four years later, I still get occasionally (and quite overwhelming) cravings.

Ah, the regular smoking thread. Hadn't seem them for a while back on GR.

My first thought was also that this thread was going to end in a bitter fight but then, on the other hand, I haven't seen the most fanatic anti-smoker, Kiran, here.

Started smoking when I was 12, 13. Quitted about 12 years later, shortly after meeting my boyfriend. Then, when I moved in with him (a big, and stressful step) I started to smoke occasionally and also started 'social-smoking'.

Unlike other 'social-smokers', I did feel guilty about asking others for cigarettes all the time. I started buying (and smoking) cigarillos (small cigars) as I thought they were more suitable for occasional smoking. But occasional turned into regular again. And even though, in the end, I didn't smoke more than 2 cigarillos a day (well, a little more when I was on holiday) I didn't like the fact that it grew into a habit again so I quit and on 2nd September I will not have smoked for 2 years and 3 months.

This. Never smoked and never will do, I'm far too into sport to bother with such a nasty habit.

I smoke socially. HOWEVER: I have my own packet of tobacco at the moment. I won't buy any more when I finish this though.

I don't understand the reasoning behind smoking, leading me to believe that you simply have to forget reasoning and let your hair down, baby. I don't hate it, as I know it pumps a lot of money into the government (as much as it costs the NSH? Surely...), I just can't for the life of me understand why anyone chooses to do it. I smoke weed because it gets you high and can speed up the drinking process.

weed count? I don't touch cigs, but I may wish to unwind at the end of a hard week with a southafricanreeferstylespliffdoobie.

I did my dissertation on tobacco smoking in the UK. The Government recieve around 9.5 billion in tax from tobacco according to my calculations (which were approved by my tutor as valid) and smokers cost the NHS 1.5 billion.

8 billion profit, 5 billion profit on the very low side.

Doesn't get mentioned though much does it?

I don't smoke which, considering my background (parents both smokers, a lot of my school friends were too) is unusual. My dad quit a few years back and I'm desperately trying to get my mum to stop, our family has lost too many to lung cancer over the years.

Please do not post this in the "No Context" thread

I don't smoke, never have, never will - never been tempted by the things. I don't see the attraction with them either. I like to keep myself relatively so heavy drinking and smoking are both big No-Nos.

Only when I'm pissed, really. I don't really enjoy smoking TBH, I just get an urge sometimes when I'm drunk and mates are lighting up. :|

Just seems a lot easier, cheaper and healthier not to start. So no.

I've been smoking for two separate periods of months. The first was for a year after turning 18, and the second was the year I was a conscript, of which I'm just free of. Not bought a packet in two weeks, and don't intend to buy another one either, except maybe for when I'm out drinking.

However.

Nope, health risks + smoke + don't care about taste + nicotine gives psychological illusion that you genuinely enjoy smoking concentrated death = smoking is bad, kids!

It's snuff, I think. You take a pinch of it, and inhale it through your nose.

Snuff is quite fun. Bit like poppers. Except not gay.

I do smoke, have done for years, but I really would not recommend it to young people. Best avoided.

Rather like organised religion.
