Curious what people's feelings are and if anything has changed over the past 4 years.

I have little doubt Brexit and this Tory government have destroyed this country and its going to get a lot worse before it gets better which realistically could take decades.

We have just bought a house and are starting a family but we've already discussed plans to leave in 7/8 years when the kids are a little older. We'd both have been keen to do it regardless of the current shitshow but it has just motivated us even more.

Probably, because I'm unlikely to ever be able to afford to leave.

Most likely.
I would kind of like to move to a nice cabin next to a lake in Canada but I highly doubt I'll ever be able to afford that.

I can't even afford to live on my own here, let alone in another country.

Maybe. The GF is from Istanbul so slightly tempted to try life over there for a bit, although unfortunatly their government is even worse than ours.

I would like to live somewhere a bit less racist one day.

My partner doesn't want to stay here long-term after Brexit, so we will probably move away. Ireland sounds like a pretty straightforward option for us (both EU and CTA).

I'd quite like to go back to working in an IGO so quite possibly I'll move back abroad. Particularly with this shower in control for at least the next 4 years

No, because I don't think that my area will always remain part of the UK.

Yes I do. Almost no chance whatsoever of me leaving the country on a permanent basis.

I don't think I will but I've got a long way to go before I can actually leave.

Hah, I suppose that's true.

I do see myself living back in Edinburgh at some point when older. This year I'm trying to move to Poland long term but need to see what the immigration regulations are going to be like.

Yes, I wouldn't want to move far from family and friends. I also don't think I'd cope very well in a non-English speaking country, which would limit options anyway. I also just like the environment, wildlife and climate (although I would be drawn more northwards than the south of England).

I doubt I will, I just can’t see myself in 10 years doing the same thing.

The idea of moving away from my family and friends makes me uncomfortable, and my ability to learn other languages is almost zero - so it's unlikely, but not because I feel the UK is better than alternatives.

I also generally crave stability, which currently manifests itself in wanting to own a home - and then pay it off as soon as possible. I want to be in a position where if the worst comes to the worse, and I, say, had to rely on part time hours at minimum wage for a while I knew the roof over my head is ok.

Realistically I don't think I could leave but it'd be nice.

Something like this is the dream for us. Canada or the USA.

Pay mortgage off early, pile money saved from that in to high interest savings. I've been playing a lot in to my pension too, so that should be pretty good. No kids, no debts, sell house and retire early.

Canada or Australia have been options in my mind for a while but realistically I think the odds are more likely that I'll stay put in the UK.

Used to be really into the idea of moving to the US as well but have zero interest in that these days

I'm already in the States, and don't see myself moving back in the foreseeable future due to the expense of uprooting and job uncertainty at this moment.
